where's the emoticon of the smiley rolling around laughing his ass off? that'd come in handy right about now.
It is sharply divided, just not evenly divided. A bunch of polls have a majority of Americans supporting positions opposite of the administration. This is an important point... I suspect too many Dems are sitting there thinking, "OK, if we impeach we'll eventually get unwarranted payback from the Repubs, just like Nixon/Clinton. Thus, if we don't impeach, we won't have to worry about whether they try it again on a Dem president." I think this is the weakest of all reasons not to impeach, and if it is the major reason not ot, then I'd be in favor of pushing it. If the interests of the country demand you impeach, but you don't because you fear future political reprisals, you don't have any business in office. The best way ot guard against future impeachments is to govern wisely, to discredit the people who have taken over the Republican Party in the last 2-3 decades, and make sure they never get close to power again. I suspect by the end of Summer... as the revelations and investigations keep coming and Iraq continues to be FUBAR, you'll see Congress getting close and the closer the 2008 elections get, the harder it will be for Repubs to stick by the administration. Regarding our international position, an impeachment of Bush would do nothing but raise our standing dramatically. And again, I don't think the country is as evenly divided as you imply and I think by the end of Summer, you'll even see a few of the deadenders waking up and peeling off. There is virtue in impeaching him. It's just extremely difficult to do within the timeframe and with Cheney sitting there. And by the way, rumor is Bush is scared of horses, that's why he never rides them.
Oh really. Yep all the Congressional Repubs would want an indicted Bush to serve out his term. That would help so much in their re-election bids.
I misread what you wrote in that email. You are right, if he were indicted of a crime, I would imagine the votes to remove him would be there.
LOL The difference is that, this time around, almost everyone is aware of the crimes taking place. What does it say if, even with widespread awareness of the 'indiscretions' of a sitting administration, nothing happens?
Concur. Franklin D. Roosevelt would have been behind bars before the end of his third term if that were the criterion. Indictment and / or impeachment = foolishness. Sometimes I believe the Far Left just plain wants to lose the next election so they can continue to be "downtrodden."
Especially since impeachment is more of a political than a legal exercise. Congress could impeach the president for picking his nose if they had the votes to do it.
