Teams such as Portland and the Knicks sit at the top of the heap in player payroll. They have aging players with large contracts such as LJ and Ewing for the Knicks and Pip, Sabonis and S Smith for the Blazers. Detlef is aging, but a smaller contract compared to the others. Trading the above players for young talent is just about impossible and even after these players retire, the teams will probably still be over the cap. Is there some way out of this that I don't see?
