lol at the responses. yeah i just read the article so the posts werent there. big ownage on north hahhaa
Gattier? Sheesh man. Get it right. JK. I read the same article in Slam today and that must've been a b**** to type up. Good stuff.
Btw, I love Battier. Now we finally have our own Bruce Bowen / Tayshaun Prince, the ultimate role player.
You people are rediculous, appreciate and not be a bunch of d1cks. THAKNS FOR THE READ. (OMG I MADE A TYPO I MUST BE DUMB)
Thanks man, I'll have to go pick up that issue. Would've been cool if the author had mentioned the reaction of Memphis fans when Shane comes back to play there. They absolutely adore him. When the home crowd is going crazy for an away player...you know he must be special.
Thanks so much for posting this Yoyo! my favorite part... LOL that is exactly how I feel!! Must be that UK-Duke love to hate relationship rearing its ugly head! But when I grow up I wanna be just like Shane! only in a UK college uniform!
Great read. Thanks for the effort. Back to the original article... here's my nitpick with Battier. I love his hustle. I do. And he's a fine player. But he sorta gets a free ride on his whole nice-guy-ish "Scoring isn't important to me. Winning is important. I don't care about my stats, I care about trophies." That's a bit of a fallacy. Him scoring and the team winning are not mutually exclusive. In fact, Van Gundy is effectively telling him that if you step up and shoot more, the team has a better chance to win. In other words, in my mind it's not that Battier chooses "winning over scoring," it's that, well, he's just not capable. Through his gleaming smile and squeaky-clean charm, Battier is the master of lowering expectations. But how nice would it be if he stepped up, looked for his shot, and grew into the third scoring option? Anyway, not trying to knock Shane. He's a good guy. And I have no doubt that his hustle, defense, and intelligence has won us some ballgames. But it irks me that his clear weakness--an inability or refusal to assert himself on offense--gets sold as a strength.
I think he showed last night that he has the ability, he just looks to passs first every time. The passing mentality is too ingrained into him, that is why VG has had to tell him over and over to look for his shot more often. Im really hoping that his offensive performance against the Hornets will carry over to the postseason....he has to see how much it helped us for him to actively look for a shot.
Thanks for the article dude. Well... perhaps if Battier can just get a little wee bit more aggressive on the offense...
He only looked for his shots becaue the D is focused on someone else (Tracy McGrady) and he was left lightly defended, if at all. He's done that most of the season, last night he was just left alone more often for either a drive to the hoop or a shot. You are sitll not going to see Battier trying to create his own shot too often-- not is he really that great at it. When it comes to "creating your own offense," Battier is pretty much limited to doing so when he has a clear mismatch.
