I kept my eye on Franchise to see what he would do tonight during the anthem...he stood the entire time and didn't do that goofy "bend at the waist" think he and Mobley did all of last season. Then again, Mobley was in the locker room during the anthem so who knows what he'll do when they are back together.

And he also had a great game.

I was also proud to see how he did during the anthem and during the singing of 'God Bless America'. He also said all the right things about the terrorist attacks in New York.

Gee, that's mighty big of you guys to allow Steve into your patriotic club. Now he's almost as much of an American as you guys!

So now we give props to people who actually stand for the playing of the national anthem?

    Oh brother.....

He should do this, it's nothing people should pat him on the back for, it should be something that his teammates kick his butt if he doesn't do.

Sorry, just frustrates me when we slap an athlete on the back for doing something the rest of us do without thinking or without praise.

I bet these people who were at home did not stand!!! If someone chooses not to stand during the national anthem it is their business. Just because you stand does not mean that you have any less respect for the country in my opinion and if Steve and Cuttino do or do not stand they will still be my favorite rockets players. You people should just mind your business and make sure you stand during the song, that is the only thing you can really do to show your love for the country, because you sure can not make those grown men do anything they do not want to do.

Rock on Steve and Cuttino do what you feel...hell lay down for all I care long as you are doing what makes you happy. ;)

Jack the Ripper did what makes him happy. Hell Osama bin Laden likes to fly planes into our buildings.

You would get along great with Hilary Clinton.

Its all about respect. A lot of people died for our right to stand, sit, chat, sing, or what ever during the national anthem. When you play 82+ games a year it may become old hat and many athletes, fans, media and others have just gone about their business while the anthem plays before every game. (I'm as guilty of the next guy) But the recent events have made me remember how important it is to show my respect for those who have sacrificed before and those that are doing so now, and how lucky I am to live in such an open society with freedom to chose my course. I think it's good that Steve Franchise now pays some attention while the anthem plays, but I don't think he deserves any extra props for doing so. My outlook changed a lot on 9-11 and I'm sure his did too.

I am with that..many Americans gave their lives for the freedom to play basketball and make millions..so hell if want to see Francis laying down or any other kind of playing around during the national anthem..you might as well slap all those people who gave their lives..bottom line is it's disrespectful ..and right about now it's even a greater focus..even Franchise realizes that he is in the public eye and is held at a high standard!!

Not sure I understand why it's a problem to recognize someone for showing respect.

No problem with him showing respect but the fact that he is getting extra recognition for something he (we) should have been doing all along was the point behind my post.

Anyone have their 2nd grade mentality converter handy so I can figure out what the F*** this guy is talking about?

Beyond all this I though Steve had a great game, but played way too many mins for the preseason.

My point is - if he's going to get heat for not doing it, then he should get credit for doing it (showing respect).

It's not right to just point out people's shortcomings.

Ok, maybe I shouldn't have titled this "Props To Steve". I was just pointing out that he stood this time instead of being bent over at the waist. That is what he should have done all along.

    End of discussion.

    Tb-Cain is absolutely correct!!

So let's all give props to terrorists everywhere for not ramming any airplanes into skyscrapers today.

TB-Cain - I agree you have to point out the good with the bad. I didn't know Steve had been called out for not standing during the anthem. If he had, pointing out that he had changed (like many of us) is cool by me.
