Didn't see anything about this: http://www.usatoday.com/sports/basketball/nba/grizzlies/notes.htm I don't know how much cap room they have, but if they can get a good, reliable veteran PG and the lottery balls bounce with the odds, they could go from last to playoffs. Can you imagine a starting line-up with Gasol, Durant, Gay, Miller, and Chauncey Billups?
I can imagine how hard it would be for that team to play defense. They would have to help out like crazy to be effective at all.
durant will need to put on some major meat in order to play the 4, and it doesn't help that gasol already plays that spot. drafting oden makes a lot more sense, otherwise their defense would be marshmellowy soft. i really hope durant doesn't end up in memphis bc a) we don't need him playing for a conf rival and b) memphis jerseys look like crap, and i want to get a durant jersey thats actually wearable.
Gasol is a lousy 4. Durant would be better. Everyone is Boston will be praying for Memphis to pick Oden, though. Me, too, kind of. One group of Tennessee fans in Texas is too much already.
well when was the worse team that won the lottery? it hardly ever happens, so we'll see who actually has the number one pick. this isn't like the nfl where you draft base on your record!
He could, eventually. Garnett, O'Neal, and Odom hardly entered the league with bulk. Even Marion mans the 4. Evan
Is there any way that Boston can get both of the top picks? They've been a pretty awful team for a while now, I'm just sayin. They need to be contenders sooner or later. I think it'd be nice to have two good teams to root for, being conceived in Boston. My inner fetus needs some Celtic pride. All I have is stupid stories from the 80's and vague memories of the great Dino Rajah.
Memphis already has a bunch of swingmen, plus they can't play defense. I think they take Oden, unless West pulls off a big trade. Of course, in a perfect world, Memphis gets the third pick, doesn't get either Oden OR Durant, and MemphisX jumps off a really tall building.
if they grab Olden and he is more than average player, it'll make Rudy Gay an even better player. Then, we'll get a bunch of threads about how we let a great player go for Shane battier.
Which is the better frontline? C - Gasol PF - Durant SF - Gay C - Oden PF - Gasol SF - Gay I think I like the second one more. It might be smart to take Durant anyway and then trade down.
I thought it was the Oden sweepstakes as well...not Durant. Oh well it doesn't matter. Memphis might actually pick Oden and try to go with the twin towers look, because they have Rudy Gay who could be a phenomenal wing talent. Durant will probably be better than Gay, but Gay won't be too far behind. You've got a young SF with lots of potential, might as well solidify your post defense. Boston would have picked Oden first as well I believe, they already have Paul Pierce and Jefferson, they don't need another forward. A defensive specialist center with the potential like Oden's is all they need to be a great team in the East... I can't see Durant being taken over Oden, not with the worst 2 teams in the league this year needing a center more than a forward... You never know, Durant might be better than Oden, but great centers are harder to find than great slashers/wing players.
