I get really annoyed about people who think I'm only a Rox fan because of Yao. The last time I saw the Rox playing here in Minneapolis I was waiting by the tunnel to see the Rox come out. Some guys (see the "douchebag" pic that crops up on the BBS every now and then) come up to me and say "don't worry he's pretty hard to miss." and "Yeah the Rockets are a pretty good team but we know you're only here to see the guy from your country"

First being the ignoramuses that they are they didn't recognize the Astros cap that I was wearing but to have some fun with them "I said yeah I am." and pulled out a picture of V-Span.

Anyway I've been a Rox fan since the days that Jim Petersen was the White Tower instead of sitting in the T-Wolves broadcast booth so I find it rather presumptious to conclude that the only reason an Asian guy would like the Rox is because of Yao.

because his Jersey is too large for me to wear.
and i think a 'S' size YAO jersey is not that good-looking.
u can imagine how strange a 5'5" - 5'8" man to wear the jersey with 7'6" size

But you get to see the fact that all the jersy selling have improved significantly in China since Yao come to NBA. This is simply because more and more Chinese watch NBA games and then they found more fav players. This is really the success of NBA's international stratrgy. Years before, for most Chinese people, all about NBA they know might be Mike Jordon only. Only those real fans know the rest stars.

This is just like the effect on Rocket, when yao is here, Rocket players TMac (and even Battier, Hayes..) attracts more Chinese people and TMac is actually even more popular than Yao. Think about it, if TMac is still in Magic, he will not be within top 3 jersy selling.

I'm a huge Yao fan but Yao just doesn't dominate the way Hakeem, Jordan and others did. For example when Hakeem was in his prime I always felt comfortable in the fact we could still win even when 20 points down, even against the elite teams. I haven't gotten there with Yao yet.

Playoffs have a way of getting players to the TRUE elite status. We lost the Dallas series before, didn't help. Yao must pile up the HUGE wins to get the super elite status.

You must leap those high hurdles to deserve true greatness. TMac hasn't done it either and I'm a huge TMac fan as well. I know they have it in them. Gotta dig deep.

    OH MY GOD!
    Do you really think so?
    I am a chinese
I think most chinese people don't have enough money to buy Yao Ming's Jersey.
In china most basketball fans are Lakers' and Rockets' and most of them are
college students. Part of them are too poor to buy the star's Jersey

    1. People love guards more than centres. Guards are like spider man and centres will be considered as the green giant. Do you wanna be spider man or green giant?

    2. Yao is too good. You have to play like Yao if you want wear his jersey. It would be a shame if you wear his jersey and play like sh*t. :p

Well, Chinese people don't have to love every Chinese person, do they? I mean as an American, if I watch European or Chinese basketball, should I like the American players more than the non-American players? Why aren't we wondering if Chinese people bought Wang Zhizhi and Mengke Bateer jerseys?

Yes, both Yao and TMac need a ring to gain respect and Jersey buyers.

Maybe it is because not many Chinese can actually relate to Yao. If Yao walked in a crowd on the street, you would see why many can't relate to him ...

Hint: average chinese has a height of 5'8...

If any Chinese fans feel strange wear Yao's jersey because he's a tall center and their game is not like his. They can gladly remove the Y and the O
and replace it with MXWELL. Then they can play like a championship and heroic Rocket shooting guard with passion!

for those chinese fans who never say Max play, he reminds people of the character: Tequilla in John Woo's Hardboiled
    or he's the Iron Monkey
or he's Jet Li in Once upon a time in China
or he's that lizard that destroys Tokyo
    That's Vernon Maxwell

That's because guards are a lot more fun to watch/emulate for the casual fan. Guys like Yao and Duncan aren't 'flashy', and they don't control the ball and do all kinds of crazy things with it.

It's really a naturally inclination to want to be more like Mike than Kareem, and it will always be that way.

 it is hard to find a Yao's jersey in New Zealand, only several sports shops sell tmac's jersey. Most of them just sell Celtic Paul Pierce's jersey, dammit!
