for everyone who thought seattle's announcers ripped on the rockets the whole time.. they gave battier heaps of praise for that. again and again
That was such an awesome play. This is what I wrote in the game thread right after it happened- BAAAAAAATTTTTIIIIEEEERRRRRR
One of the few times it was fortunate the player the Rockets wanted from the 2006 NBA Draft (Brandon Roy) wasn't available at #8, allowing the trade with Memphis (Battier for rights to Rudy Gay) to happen. Roy is having a strong rookie season and looks to have a long, solid NBA career. Battier has been everything we could have hoped for. No wonder Tmac was so happy when he first heard of the trade.
i say we get Battier as the Dynamo keeper after the playoffs are over, he'll be our big money free agent we get. that was as good a save as i've seen.
He couldve been an excellent goal keeper I would say. Roma probably wouldnt have lost 7 goals if he were the goalie.
Shane Battier signed a 6 year contract extension worth 36.8 million in July of 2004. His remaining contract is as follows: 2006/7 $5,393,300 this year 2007/8 $5,883,600 2008/9 $6,373,900 2009/10 $6,864,200 2010/11 $7,354,500
I like Shane and all (although we'll need him to get out of this shooting slump REAL soon), but I really don't see what's so spectacular about that play. I think most people in his situation could have and would have done the same thing. It looked cool on the replay, but I mean it really wasn't anything all that special. The ball came to him, and he did what he needed to do to keep it alive...
i love how shane battier is playing. his athleticism, hustleness he was about to stand up but he saw the ball and dropped right back down to tip it to rafer i was amazed by that play and was glad we got him...before i dont watch the grizz play so i thought battier was some garbage..but now after watching him this whole season, i change my mind
that play was awesome, and really seemed to define and epitomize those intangibles that are always associated with his name in conversation. I have forgotten the person's name, someone from Memphis (was he a writer?) who came and posted here after the trade saying we got burned, and that we'd appreciate Battier the person and hard worker, but that we'd regret the trade as Memphis had gotten the better deal. Anyone else remember this? Gay may turn out great, might not, but Battier was the right move at the right time. That little "save" really showed one of the reasons why.
It was quite spectacular, I thought... and he makes those type of clutch hustle plays very often, stuff that doesn't show on the stat sheet but may end up tipping the balance of a game our way... I'm more concerned about his shooting tho - someone's mentioned this before, but he seems to bring the ball up seemingly from around his knees when he shoots the three, always amazes me when he makes those... Don't forget that three point attempt earlier in the Sonics game that missed everything, but fortunately went straight to tmac who layed it up...
