I don't think this is true. He's just sensitive and knows he can do better. He needs people to believe in him.

What got me going was the fact that the dumba$$ dude sent a text mssg to the trainer...it probably went something like this....

Bonzi: "..'Sup Keith...what you doing dawg?"

Keith: "Nothing man...just sitting here man 'bout to stretch You out before practice...what you doing B you going to be late?"

Bonzi: "Nothin' man just chillin' watchin' Oprah not really feeling this practice thing man just tryin' get my head together. I don't know man thinking about going see that movie 300 or something..."

Keith: "Yo B, I wouldn't do that if i was you...man you know coach be trippin dawg..."

Bonzi: "Man..whatever...coach can ride my ...you know what man...I ain't feelin' his rotation man..."

Keith: " Man..you better chill and get yo money man...

Bonzi: "Man...don't mention money to me dawg...that's all I think about $36 Million times a day man...I think I'm cracking up...All I want to do is lay around and eat cookies and cream all day..."

Keith: "Man, you better stick to that Jenny Craig I put you on dude...you got to get paid next year. You know it's about time for you to shine against Utah in the 1st Rd man..."

i can't make a new thread; but, here's some expected, but still breaking, news

BONZI WELLS OUT FOR REST OF SEASON

    http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=2832779

Bonzi Wells averaged 23.2 points in the Sacramento Kings' six-game playoff loss to the San Antonio Spurs last season. It appears that his new team, the Houston Rockets, won't benefit from the veteran's production during their own postseason push.

The Houston Chronicle reported on Tuesday night that Wells, who did not show up for the team's game against Seattle on Monday, will not play for the team the remainder of the season.

Citing a person with knowledge of the situation, the paper says that Wells will be fined for missing Monday's game but that no other fines are planned and he will not be suspended or released.

Wells was not with the team during their walkthrough on Monday morning and wasn't in the arena before the game, coach Jeff Van Gundy said. Wells left a voice message for Rockets' athletic trainer Keith Jones saying he felt he was disrupting the chemistry of the team, and Van Gundy was unable to get in touch with Wells.

"I have nothing new, really," Van Gundy said on Tuesday, according to the paper. "I don't have any reaction. That's got to be more of an organizational thing."

Wells' agent, Bill Duffy, confirm to the Chronicle that Wells left the road trip and will talk with Rockets general manager Carroll Dawson.

"He felt he was hurting the team," Duffy said, according to the Chronicle. "He did not want to be a distraction with his play. It was not his actions. He was frustrated with his play and did not want to hurt the team. His methodology was wrong, but that's what he was trying to do."

Wells played five minutes in Sunday night's 112-106 win over Sacramento, but asked out of the game, Van Gundy said. He played 23 minutes in the Rockets' loss in Portland on Friday, the first time he was activated in 18 games.

The game in Sacramento was Wells' return to the team where he averaged 13.6 points in 52 games last season. He was the Kings' best player in their first-round playoff matchup against San Antonio.

But Wells botched his free agency last summer when he turned down a long-term, $38.5 million offer from the Kings. Every NBA opening soon filled, and Wells had to settle for a comparatively tiny deal in Houston, where he has flopped.

Wells was averaging 7.8 points and 4.3 rebounds, playing in just 28 games. He was inactive for 18 of the Rockets' first 20 games, did not play in three games in December and early January, then was inactive for another seven games with a sore lower back.

Wells played sparingly in late January and February, his best game coming on Feb. 26 when he scored a season-high 27 points and played 37 minutes in a 77-72 loss to lowly Boston. He went back on the inactive list March 2 and missed the next 18 games, the first 10 with a sore right foot.

The Chronicle reported that Van Gundy planned to put Wells in the rotation for the remainder of the regular season.

"I was going to give the whole seven games to see what I thought was the best fit going into the playoffs," he said, according to the paper.

Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.

Oh no doubt about it. They would have just ignored each other for a few days until things cooled down, but the media never gave it a day to cool down before they started to interfere.

I really believe Rafer is going to be our X-factor. If alston can step it up in the playoffs and knock down his shots more consistently then everything else will fall in place.

You know one of the hardest things for people to understand about professional athletes is that their workout routines are so intense that they are eating all the time - not just big guys, but everyone. When a player goes down with an injury, it's very easy for them to put on the weight quickly just by eating the same things they did when they were "on the wagon". I'm a big guy who can put away some food but the college/semi-pro/pro atheletes I have known could all put away 3 or 4 times what I did - and they never gained a pound...unless they got hurt for an extended period of time...

Ever notice why every player you see in virtually any sport who has retired and comes back a year or two later to do a little halftime interview of some kind looks noticeably fatter? Anyway, my point is that if the guy truly has a groin injury as bad as it seems, then it explains his lack of working out and sudden weight gain - groin injuries are painful!

...I also want to refer all of you b****ing about the 2 million to remember the names out there we were considering in the offseason before Bonzi fell in our laps. Remember? ...when we had just got spurned by Mike James....yeah....

Hindsight is 20/20 and a gamble on Bonzi was still a good move by the Rockets considering the field out there at the time. We can write this season off in the Bonzi experiment and either next year we have no attachments to him if he opts out OR, we get another chance at seeing a healthy Bonzi for a relatively small amount of money. The Rox are still in a good position...it just sucks we won't have that 3rd scorer for the playoffs this year unless Head or Rafer can bring some consistency.

You know, I hate to say it, but maybe Bonzi did the right thing by stepping away. Maybe he knows he just doesn't fit on this team, and it's better to let the team go on without him than to screw things up this close to the playoffs.

Worst things have happened to the Rockets with regards to headcases. Nobody was shot at, and nobody is left in the lurch.

You just KNOW that Kirk Snyder did a little jig when he heard the news though.

The thing I'm troubled with is why he couldn't just tell JVG that he doesn't want to play anymore. Why disappear like that? He even said if coach doesn't want to play him, he'll take the high road and be a cheerleader on the bench.

I still hoped he'd be on the bench on the active roster, not just because of the camaraderie, but because of insurance just in case a player like Head or Snyder got hurt in the playoffs. If we were to get to the WCF and play the Spurs, you'd like to know that a Spurs killer is on your team.

What a disaster. I wish him luck in the future. :(

I wanted to make this a separate thread, but I'm a rookie...

Lets look at all the acquisitions this year before and mid season. These are players that were at one time on the active list in the regular season, so I'm not going to include guys like Casey Jacobsen or Kelenna Azubuike.

    Shane Battier
    John Lucas III
    Steve Novak
    Scott Padgett
    Kirk Snyder
    Vasilis Spanoulis
    Jake Tsakalidis
    Bonzi Wells

When the season started, I thought Dawson did a great job. But in retrospect, I see that 7 of those 8 players have contributed very little, and it's pretty disappointing. It's not all Dawson's and Morey's fault of course. Especially in Bonzi's case, injury is the biggest blame. What do you think about our last off season now?

It's ironic that the only player above that is actually contributing (Batman) is the one that at least some people had a problem with at first. Of course, that was a trade. For most of those players above, we signed.

    I think they did great.

The question comes down to how this team performed and with it's injuries, it did quite well. Other than Shane and Kirk (who's injury definitely impacted his season), this season there should have been low expectations for the remainder of this squad. Bonzi was always a dice roll. Lucas is a deep bench player yet performs ok when in, Novak and VSpan may still contribute someday, Jake was a smart pick-up.

I wish JVG would give some minutes to VSpan at the point these last four games. I hate seeing Rafer play 40 plus minutes a game.

If by deprived you mean that was Bonzi have the series of his career, and that after that he reverted to form as a lazy headcase that ballooned up to about 60 pounds overweight and didn't help the ROX at all, I am forced to agree.

Look, I'm no bonzi hater... I was thrilled when I thought we were getting him on our team. I get the situation, past contract negotiations failing, coming here for a greatly reduced salary.... But have you EVER seen someone "jake" like this? It's ridiculous. Before the season even started it was "Dental Problems" and "Oh, this is just preseason, I'll be there when the real season starts." now it's "I'm a distraction."

People making excuses saying "I blame the injury" is a just a steamy load. People blaming the coach for this must have no idea what managing personell is about... and they're out there, readying their new "Dump on JVG" thread of the week. But COME ON!

Dude was paid more money than most people make in a lifetime to come here and play freaking basketball... and all he had to do to escape the ire of those that see this clearly was to TRY. Just ACT like you care. He never seemed able... regardless of the real reason.

I hate to say it, but at this point, I hope whatever his problem is might be something serious so that I could find a way to empathize, because right now he is exemplifying to me everything that is wrong with professional sports today... an engrained sense of entitlement rather than gratitude for being allowed to play a game for ridonkulous salaries. Yeah, maybe it didn't seem like a lot to him, and maybe relatively speaking it's not a huge hit to us (I think we are all more upset about the lack of contribution than the amount of money wasted) but honestly... and maybe things here weren't what he thought they'd be. DUDE IS UNDER A CONTRACT. THEY ARE PAYING HIM 2 MILLION DOLLARS AND ALL HE HAS DONE IS ACT LIKE HE'S NOT PART OF THE TEAM AND OWES US NOTHING....or that he doesn't have to be because he's not "getting his" here. Sick.

Well, he got his wish. Now he ISN'T part of the team, and frankly, it pisses me off... almost as much as people making excuses for him.

Kudos to Rockets Management for just calling it quits and agreeing with Bonzi that he is not part of this team... but not cutting him. I only wish they could fine him 2 million for being such a jackass. Ok, 1.5... he had a couple of games where he played well enough to make you think "Hey, if he could just give us 10 good minutes of this we'd be in better shape." Unfortunately, we didn't get many more minutes than that, and when he did get some, he took himself out and left the team hanging. Sick.

Thanks for nothing Bonzi. Or at least very little.

Uhh...many of those guys are on the deep end of the bench. Snyder has contributed, despite missing so many games because of a broken hand. Lucas has contributed despite being a third string point guard. Acquiring Jake was incredibly important, and prevented us from losing a couple of games midseason when Deke started to get tired (and after his knee injury). He was the replacement for Padge.

So if you're going to whine about Spanoulis, just whine about Spanoulis and be done with it. Because other than Bonzi and Spanoulis, every one of those guys has been useful to us one way or another.
