You're wrong. It's not a distraction because the Rockets made it one -- it's a distraction because Bonzi did it in the first place. Had he not acted like a selfish cretin, we wouldn't all be talking about it now. I swear I don't understand how people can say it's anyone's fault except his. Poor, misunderstood Bonzi.
It has definitely cost Bonzi millions in future contracts till he has another good season. I guess the post season will show if JVG's stubborness has cost JVG millions.
You're wrong. I wasn't defending Bonzi My comments were mostly directed at how the Rockets handled the situation given the circumstances, ie several games away from the playoffs.
Feigen thinks we'll release him within the next 24 hours. What's disappointing is that Bonzi said that if coach doesn't play him, he'll still be a cheerleader on the bench. In this case, Bonzi decided he didn't want to play. I still want him on the roster. I don't care what happened in the last 24 hours. Snyder didn't play at all today, so is Head going to get all the minutes? What if hypothetically Head or T-Mac gets hurt in the playoffs?
In that case... never mind. But seriously, what were they supposed to do? Ignore the questions from the media? Make up another injury? The guy walked out on them, and rather than trash him publicly, JVG (who had to be pretty pissed) just shrugged off the questions until he knows exactly what's going on and exactly how he wants (or how the team wants him) to respond. I think they did a pretty good job of not making an ugly situation worse.
I can't read through so many pages of drama but I'll echo what I'm sure some posts have said already. hope bonzi is well and wish him the best in the future, but I want professional players on my team. I'll take a Skip Brick any day as long as it comes with desire and the will to do what you can within your power to bring good fortune to your team. from day one he has had the opportunity to prove he belongs on the court by doing the things you need to do off of the court. he has chosen another path. Maybe he thinks this is a good way to get back at the system that robbed him of millions of dollars. Maybe he just doesn't have the mentality needed for this team. Whatever is going on I wish him the best and it's time to move on. Later Bonzi. Good luck.
What's this guy's malfunction? Maybe his agent should explain to him that he's going to be out of basketball if he keeps this up. Whatever the hell is wrong in his life is going to get 10x worse if nobody wants him.
According to Rockets.com, Bonzi's already been placed back on the inactive list. It's pretty much over...
LOL !!! Weird guy........ According to Zhang Yi of Sohu Sports, confirmed by Rockets' trainer, Keith Jones, Bonzi Wells has left Houston and arrived Portland, and waited there for Houston Rockets' next game with the Trailblazers. http://sports.sohu.com/20070410/n249332401.shtml Does he still think he will have a chance to be inserted back into the active rotation roster, after this drama-queen no show he put on his team ?
Class would be sitting quietly on the bench and cheering on the Rockets until they are done the playoffs, not going AWOL and making the Coach, teamates, and the entire Rockets organization worry about him going AWOL. This is quite selfish of him to do this right before the playoff run ... the last thing the Rockets need is internal drama heading into the playoffs. Now you guys know why JVG hasn't been playing Bonzi, despite Bonzi's potential talent. He just isn't a team player. Besides that, he is on contract, and is neglecting his job duties by not showing up with the team. If I could skip out on my job, every time I didn't "feel like it" ... Rocket Zoom
BTW, Bonzi's story is an unfortunate story, but it's hard to sympathize with him. When he got out of shape last year, that was unacceptable conduct for a professional sports player. He is paid to stay in the best shape possible so that he is effective on court. As a professional athlete that gets paid millions of dollars, he should have made an effort to keep himself in the best shape possible. Rocket Zoom
I still hope he is on the playoff roster just so we can put him in the WC finals against San Antonio for the psychological effect... Plus, he can elbow Ginobili in the nose just for flopping too much.
Last night the crowd was giving him a real hard time and it seemed like he was emberrased. At one point it was real quiet and someone yelled at him and he looked like he was going to cry. Before the game he was working hard this cat just has big problems, i am sure he thinks of all the cash he gave up.... wants to kick himself in the head. He's here in cali gettin high of the cali greenekim]That's a pretty unacceptable... when the team is still going for the home court advantage. I am also confused by the fact that he took himself out of the game last night... didn't he say he want some playing time [/QUOTE]
Dude may just need some support and some counseling. Patience is key here. No point in cutting - waiving a guaranteed contract this late- let's try to reach out to Bonzi. I'm serious- what do we have to lose???? Bring the man back from the dead and take the moral high ground.
This is great news. Rocket fans will now no longer have to watch an overweight out-of-shape fatbody attempt to play basketball, and hurting the chances of the Rockets securing home court in the first round. Thanks Bonzi for putting the teams needs in front of your own. Now just retire already.
