One of the groomsman in my wedding is the CEO of Ascendent films, the guys who have made "Lord of War" and "Lucky number Sleven" and "The Big White" and currently have a neat one in production called "Outlander" DD
Ubisoft picked it up, reassigned it to the Red Storm studios who then reassigned it to another studio where it died. Too bad, it was well beyond GTA before GTA 3... DD
Is this a remake of the Sean Connery flick from way back when? Can you introduce me to Penelope Cruz????
No, this is a different flick, it is a Viking movie, shot in New Foundland. I don't want to give too much away, but I saw the dailies over the Christmas holidays and it could be pretty cool. DD
So he's saying that the entire idea was stolen because they used the same title? That's stupid, its not like Grindhouse movies were some secret part of film history and, in my opinion, Tarantino has been grindhouse movies since he hit the scene, in one shape or form. Anyway, I really enjoyed the movies. Death Proof is far and away a better overall movie but Planet Terror is a more fun film. I think a lot of people are saying that Planet Terror is a better movie because it was such a more hyperactive movie, I actually think they should have played Death Proof first then Planet terror.
Looks like they are disappointed with the box- office take and may re- release it as 2 movies. http://www.deadlinehollywooddaily.com/what-went-so-wrong-with-grindhouse/ Weinstein pointed to several reasons why Grindhouse did so poorly in theaters over Easter weekend. "Our research showed the length kept people away. It was the single biggest deterrent. It was 3 hours and 12 minutes long. We originally intended to get it all in in 2 hours, 30 minutes. That would have been a better time. But the movies ran longer, the [fake] trailers ran longer, everything ran longer," Harvey told me.
I'd give it 2 more weeks before I start going nuts. Titanic opened up with the same numbers but then word got out and three hours wasn't so much of a deterent.
I felt the same way. I feel that Planet Terror was the better overall film but I just had more fun watching Planet Terror.
Well, I just finished watching this. I felt like I was in the theatre FIVE hours, not just 3. It's not that I didn't like the movies...they were entertaining...but I just felt worn out after seeing it. As mentioned, the trailers were great. "You f-d with the wrong Mexican" line was classic. I guess of the two I liked Death Proof better. To me, if you've seen one zombie movie, you've seen them all. I think Tarantino is a lot more talented overall than Rodriguez. Although his movie did tend to get to wordy and drag on at times. Spoiler The foreshadowing of the girl having the gun was so obvious. One thing that disappointed me was the look of the movie. I've heard both guys go on and on how they made it have that vintage, scratched up, missing reel look. Did anyone else notice as the movie went on the movies looked better and better? Especially Death Proof. It seemed like they just gave up or ran out of time putting the scratches and stuff in the movie. One thing was funny...I saw it in Edwards theatre...the movie actually stopped during Planet Terror. Many people thought this was part of the movie. An usher came in and said "sorry, it'll be back on soon". After about 5 minutes you could hear the Windows boot up sound effect and soon afterwards the movie came back on. All in all I'd probably give the movie a C+ or B-.
I don't see splitting it as a good idea. BTW, loved both movies, but Tarantino's was a bit more entertaining.
I just saw it last night, I thought it was great. I liked Planet Terror better by far, but Death Proof was good, as well. I guess I was just more in the mood for over-the-top action and gore. There was certainly a bevy of hotties throughout both flicks. Yow. I guess my problem with Death Proof was that I couldn't work up any suspense or tension. I might have enjoyed it more if I'd read less about the film, but I pretty much knew what was going to happen to the women so it was just a matter of watching how it was done. It was good, but I didn't find the exposition as fascinating as in Tarantino's other stuff. Kinda cool to see Guero's and the like (and hot asses!) but overall it was a letdown after the rollicking Planet Terror.
