Hey - a wacko judge sentenced a woman to 90 lashes in the land of Saud, and now a wacko judge gives a woman a sentence to remain with a man who beats the crap out of her for at least another year. Gee - 90 lashes ain't looking so bad. Those civilized Germans really show a lot more sophistication than those barbarian camel herders.
That judgment is obviously idiotic. The judge got reassigned to other matters and 99.999 % of the German public said the judge was an idiot. Actually, the judge later said so herself.
1) The Saudi legal system is backward. 2) The German judge is an idiot. Dude, it's really amazing that you don't even have enough intellectual ability to see the difference.
But why aren't people calling the Germans barbarians like they did the Saudis. In both cases, a judge put on a horrible punishment upon a woman in a very difficult situation. If it's Saudi Arabia - then the judge reflects the fact that Arabs are barbarians. But if it's a German judge - then it's just one bad seed? Hmmmm - I smell a double standard.

People are not calling German barbarians because their laws denounces violence against women. This one judge rules that she could not get a "fast track" divorce because she believed violence is acceptable in a "Moroccan cultural environment". It was wrong. German politicians, German Muslim leaders and the German public were outraged. The judge was removed from the case and the Frankfurt administrative court said it was considering disciplinary measures against the her. So this is not a reflection of German laws and culture. Is she personally just as barbaric is she allows a women to be beaten? Maybe. That is a good question. Giving women lashes is barbaric and uncivilized, period. If you can't understand that then I just don't know what else to say. Just a snipet to clarify that (1) you need to know the rules in Islam before discussing if they're right and (2) the husband and the judge were both wrong: In Islam, to give someone lashes you have to hold a book at your armpit without it falling. I don't know how else to describe that. Basically the way some girls hold purses that don't have straps. Between your arm and your body. This makes it impossible to give a painful hit. Go ahead, try it. Some r****ds have decided to alter the rule by holding the book on one side, and lashing with the other hand. lol. Also, the "wife-beating" rule in Islam is you can tap her on the hand 3 times. There's speculation about how hard, but the majority believe it's three "taps". Just symbolic, no pain. There IS a harsh punishment for ANYONE who hits any female in the face btw. More importantly, in Islam, one very important concept is that your body doesn't belong to you. Think of it as a "rental" from God. So that's why harming your body in any way is forbidden (tattoos, smoking, etc) which obviously means that hurting someone else in that way is forbidden as well. The exception to this rule is self-defense. I don't think the judge knew any of this.

Agreed. I don't expect a German judge to know all that. But I'm saying, generally, it is idiotic to rule Islamically with little knowledge of Islam.
Exactly. The failing here isn't German law but on the part of the judge for introducing something that runs counter to German law. While cultural sensitivity and religious freedom is recognized in courts, at least in the US and I'm presuming in Germany, those are recognized to the extent they don't conflict with the existing law. For instance your religion might demand human sacrifice yet that wouldn't be allowed as a defense in a murder trial.
Oh, I understand you - if a Saudi judge goes to far, it means the entire country is barbaric. But because Germans are good people and superior to the barbarian Saudis, if a German goofs...say forces a woman to go back to her abusive husband, or say exterminated 6 million Jews, then they are still not barbarians - it's just that one bad apple. I understand you crystal clear.
