hey docs on the board, just wondering what field you are doing and how much insurence you are paying? i heard a couple horror stories where doctors were forced to quit because they dont have a lot of cash left over after insurance.

Several years back . . .I was told that if we voted in Tort Reform
the amount Doctors pay would decrease dramatically
    and
there for medical prices would drop as well . .. . . .

I too am interested to see if any Doctors have found themselves benefitting
from the Tort Reform . . . . or if only the Insurance Companies benefitted by
    getting bigger Profit Margins

I'm not a doctor, but I hear, from around our department, that our Radiologists (I go to Radiology school) have to pay about 1/5 of their salary(about) towards insurance.

They supposedly pay 100 K a year for insurance. I guess they start out making anywhere from 300 to 500 grand, though.

My sister-in-law is an OB/GYN and her malpractice insurance is over 100K per year.

I asked my dad who is a practicing pulmonologist. He said his malpractice insurance is about 16-17K. The insurance is the cheapest it has been in 3 years, due to the tort reform bill passing. Before the bill he used to pay nearly 27K.

He said that the cheapest insurance for all doctors are those in General Practice, and that is about 10K.

My older brother who is a radiologist pays about 35K.

The most expensive type of insurance is for surgeons, especially in fields of neurosurgery. Their insurance even after the tort reform bill, is about 60-70K.

Tort reform helps but it really depends on which field you're in. In specialties like OB/GYN, Neurosurgery, Ortho, and to a certain degree Pediatrics, the liability insurance tends to be much higher than in other fields. Generally surgical specialties pay more for insurance but they also make more. However OB/GYN is probably the worst. It's somewhat a problem for Pediatricians also because the children and family can sue you anytime before they reach 18.

If the forms say "insurence" they pay nothing.
