today my life was put in jeopardy. it didn't work out quite as i planned... i went to school in the morning, as usual. on the way back, i was running low on gas. i decided to get some gas at a texaco close to the church because it had the cheapest prices that i have seen. everything worked out fine. i got the gas. on the way back, i went through a green light and a dodge caravan hit me on the driver side of my truck. it failed to yield at the intersection and it totalled my truck. my airbacks went off, and it was so loud and so fast that i got lost in time and really didn't know what was going to happen. i swirved to the right to try to get out of its way and it hit me hard still barely scraping the driver door while lodging itself into the bed of my truck. my front tire was knocked out, as well as my left light. luckily, it did not lodge itself into me. when my truck stopped, i found myself on top of a curb looking downward. my door wouldn't open so i got out of the passenger side of the truck. the driver of the caravan nor any of the passengers knew english. the driver did not have a license or any insurance. there were three infants in the vehicle. two were ok, but one of them was rushed to herman. the officer said that the infant may have died. i sat down on the curb while sirens sounded and the paramedics asked me questions. i was not hurt. just got a few cuts and bruises. but i was shaken. luckily i have a few witnesses to back me up... but i can't get my mind off the infant. i had to say a prayer when i got home. and i hope that it's doing well. my truck can be replaced, but a life can't. so each and every one of you be careful when you are on the road. don't take life for granted. i'm thankful to God to be alive.
Oh wow, glad you're ok! I hope the kid is ok. Make sure you get yourself checked out for whiplash, sometimes it can pop up a day or so later when you thought you avoided it. Take care!
Glad you are ok, rock. #1 cause of auto accidents that result in death - alcohol #2 cause of auto accidents that result in death - running a stop light
Sounds like you were lucky. When I was 17 I got broadsided by a blind man. No sh*t. I had my arm hanging out of the window and pulled it in a split second before he came barrelling into the driver's side door. Did a 270 and popped up the curb, totaled my car. I had to write down all of the insurance info, since he couldn't see. Why he was driving, how he got insured, how he got a license, I still have not figured out... Got to drive defensively. One thing America has no shortage of is bad drivers. It never ceases to amaze me how you can take a perfectly intelligent person, stick them behind the wheel, and watch as they are immediately transformed into a f*ing moron...
Treeman, no lie, there are hundreds, even thousands of people who are legally blind and given licenses. I remember the story of a man who was legally blind, and his daughter tried to stop him from driving and he wouldn't. So she went to the city and tried to get his license canceled legally and they wouldn't. Then come to find out and are tons of people who are in that position. Sickening.
Thanks everyone. That was the scariest moment of my life. If I didn't try to get out of the van's way, it would have hit me straight through the door. No word on the infant yet.
Rock: I am glad to hear that you are okay. I prayers go out to the infant. I do have a question, though. Was that here in Houston? If so, were did the accident take place? I was backed up in traffic about a 7:45 AM this morning and was wondering if that was you.
rock, I too want to say I'm glad you're o.k.....the sad thing is about the baby.... Good thing you weren't in a small car....I'm trying to tell my wife to get rid of her small car, especially since we have two little ones that mean the world to me. I know larger vehicles don't guarantee anything, but they do have an advantage. The main thing is you're o.k. ....take time to relax as much as possible for the next few days...this will help. p.s. You gotta feel better for the start of the Rockets season
