Could that be related to the alternator?

It could be. It might be dying. Could it be that something is wrong in the ignition?

after it dies, does it need a jump?

meaning...does the battery sound dead or low?

if it is, the alternator isnt charging and it is losing spark when the battery loses charge.

most likely culprit is electonics...a short in the ignition circuit or a fault in the computer control circuits.

it's not the alternator. the car starts up even after shutting down. it's happened quite a few times. the battery's been changed too so it's not dead.

That is one of Adam and the Ants most underrated songs.

    Fuel filter???

I messed up the carburator on my car real bad once, and it would lurch, spit and stall. Stank of fuel.

In the spirit of full disclosure...I have NO CLUE when it comes to car repairs. I can get 'em running. But not well.

    Take R2K's advise over mine.

FB's offered you the best advise so far. Adam Ant is a guilty pleasure.

if it's missing out, you might have a faulty fuel injector

    Carr's price is pretty high.

And wasn't the idea to keep the car running?

Carr's running game needs some work.

Didn't you read the thread title?

is your check engine light on? if it is you can get the computer scanned, and maybe it'll detect the problem, probably some kind of sensor is messed up

Whenever a car cuts out always start with the fuel filter -- then work your way up from there.

I'd go with R2K on this one. Faulty ignition wiring.

It really depends on what the car sounds like when it dies.

This same problem was happening to my car. The problem turned out to be a loose plug between the alternator and the battery. Sometimes the vibration while the engine was running caused a momentary air gap, and the battery wasn't getting enough charge to keep things running.

    Just a thought.

Looking for a recent car thread where someone posted a link to a used auto parts database here in houston, but general key words aren't helping the search. Anyone know what the site is or what the thread was titled?

    Thanks.

i don't think it has anything to do with ignition wires and battery as the car shuts off once it is turned on. I would check the fuel filter and work your way up from there like someone said before.
