when i hit about 50 the right wheel shakes i had it looked at and this guy said it is the lower bar joint...anyone know what that is and does it sound right? how about pricing? also does brake check have resonable prcing?thanks
Sounds like a separated belt in the tire, or a tire out of balance/round.. check that out too... much cheaper than the first suggestion... Of course, don't skimp on safety, but I had a tire do that at about 50-55 MPH once. I wouldn't do the chain place, fwiw.
Usually its just a bad tire, wheel or alignment. I would get a second opinion. Maybe you should take it discount tire or walmart and get the tire balanced anyway. Its only about 10 bucks.
Jack up the front of the vehicle with the suspect ball joint. chock the rear wheels and put the car stand under the frame for safety. With the suspect tire off the ground, grab the tire and move it up and down. There should be no play or rattling/knocking. If you feel some play, replace that ball joint. If it pops off while driving, your wheel can come off and drive the front end of your car into the ground. Depending on the car and your skills with tools, you caould do it yourself or take it ot a general mechanic. Franchise mechanics overcharge.
anybody know the problem when the steering wheel vibrates alot when slowing down and pushing on brakes?
warped rotors. You might have gone through a bit of water after some hard driving. The sudden temperature change can warp your rotors.
lol its not a ball joint, its your tire, it doesnt matter how long ago u replaced them, a tire can go out-of-round anytime, from hitting a curb to just being a defected tire..
yeah, u need to turn your rotors or either replace them, turning rotors will save you money tho and it works.
What are you suppos to do with warped rotors? i think that is happening to my truck. I got brakes pads changed about two years ago. And they said I had about 30% padding left last time I had it checked was four weeks ago.
How can you lol and say its not a ball joint? Have you personally checked the car? Sure, it might be the tire, and like you said, it can be a defective tire, or he could have damaged it, but I'm telling him how to check if its the ball joint, and if it is and that sucker let's go, he's planting the front of the car in the pavement.
In turning the rotors, a machine shaves the rotor flush with the lowest point. They can only shave so much off of the rotor before the rotor becomes to thin to be safe. Always err on the side of safety when it comes to your brakes.
Why the "lol"? Are you laughing at someone else's misfortunes ? "its" a very bad habit, man. Apostrophes are your friends. Also, please look up the definition of "defected" and compare with "defective."
if your previous post caused me to question your actual knowledge on cars, this one confirmed it DO NOT LISTEN TO THIS GUY, he doesnt know what he is talking about Turning rotors is actually cutting off the extra metal that is causing the rotor to pulse the brake pads, it cuts the metal down to a common lowest point, you can only do this a couple of times before the rotors must be replaced. re: ball joint FT was spoton, if you dont feel capable of determining this on your own, take it to a suspension specialist, dont go to Firestone or Walmart or any other cheapo places, your suspension is IMPORTANT, treat is as such and btw, the diagnosis sounds right, but a tire with a thrown belt can mimic the symptoms. Signed a guy that first got his ASE cert in 85.
??, did i say u can cut the rotors as many times as you want? of course not, i know it cuts them down, and soemtimes they cant cut them because they are too thin already..
