...bringing the boxes of Dunkin' Donuts to shootaround and popping the pimples on T-Mac's back? If JVG is still coaching here next year (good coaching job this year, but he's stubborn and short-sighted), best case scenario might be to see if some team out there will trade for VSpan. (Probably to include other players and such.) There's a good player in VSpan, but he will never ever ever ever ever ever ever EVER get a chance to play as long as I-hate-Euros JVG is coach.
Rafer: 43 minutes, 5 points on 2-10 shooting (1-7 3pt) JL3: 5 minutes, 0% FG, 50% FT, 0 assists VSpan: warming the bench JVG: April Fool
Shooting and the TO's can be attributed to him not having alot of confidence out there. he may thinkto himself, well i've got 5 minutes to show what i can do. hence he rushes it and commits silly TO's or whatever. i dont know. i can if he keeps working on he's flaws, the minutes will come.
The Rockets own his rights for 2 more years, I would be extremely dissappointed in them if they let him go before finding out what V-Span is really all about. But he is right, JVG should have been playing him all year. DD
JVG has made it know to the world that VSpan is the third choice after JL3, VSpan isn't gonna get any play minutes in the rest season unless JL3 breaks a leg. VSpan is just wasting his time here, I wouldn't blame him if he wants to go somewhere else where he can actually get put hands on the ball.
Ok, I wouldn't go that far...("playing him all year" I mean) He was given a semi-decent chance in november/december and I agree he didnt show much (admittedly playing out of position)... But right now I REALLY can't see how JLIII is ahead of him... The thing is I'm a Panathinaikos fan... I would LOVE to have spanoulis back at PAO.. And despite that I also want him to stay in the nba because I really believe he can make it in the long run...
I'm with you on this. I'd like for us to buy him out and use the money on someone we'll actually play. Even better is that if he leaves I won't have to see any more "Play Vspan" talk every time Rafer shoots below 99%.
I would be very, very, very if he were to leave. span has all the tools to be a very good role player this country. it takes a little more self perservation and hard work on he's part to realiase that potential.
Not only dissapointed, but i believe Span is not a quiiter. i know lot of greeks, and they are not quitters. hard working very humbel and great and warm people. there not quitters.
From what It says in the article, it seems as if V-Span is giving up, not the Rockets. I hope this isn't true, because if he wants to leave, let him. I don't want anyone on our team that just wants to come here, and expect to get playing time when he hasn't proved anything. Especially in your rookie year, V-Span is not the first international player to sit on the bench his rookie year. It all part of the NBA grind, nothing is handed to you, you must earn it. I do believe he could be are PG of the future. But IF all this is true, let him cry all the way back to Greece, we don't want those type of players.
Exactly. guys like Like Detef schremf, Rik Smits and dirk had very lean rookie years. but overtime they became super players dirk in particular.
Too late for that now, the NBDL season is almost over........ JVG does not utilize the NBDL - it is very frustrating. Of course if one of the Rockets scrubs went down to the NBDL and started dominating, the little general would have some splaining to do. DD
Not a good time for this to come up again and I'm getting fed up with it. Up to now, I wanted V-Span to come back to see how much improvement he would make after one season and one summer. It's almost to the point I just want him to disappear and go away. We are gearing up for a playoff series and 100% of the focus should be on that. If this is just V-Span's "manager" stirring up mess then V-Span should fire the guy pronto. If he did, it would send a clear message about his priorities and I would respect him a lot for doing it. Otherwise if I were the Rockets, I'd help V-Span pack his bags right now and buy his plane ticket back to Greece.
of course it's his agent...Span is not that dumb his manager wants to make some money, and being agressive is the only way to get it
I want the Rockets to win, this year, next year, and the year after that. No way, I give up an asset that I think can help the team in the future because he is unhappy today. And honestly this team is going NOWHERE this year......NOWHERE, which is why I have been wanting V-Span and Snyder and possibly Novak to get some time on the court to get comfortable and improve. Honestly, I think JVG's contract situation hurt the team's progress this year, they are good enough to make the playoffs (any team with Yao and Tmac should make them) but they are not good enough to contend. They lack pieces to the puzzle, or at least experienced pieces. I can't believe the year is almost over ( a fairly succesful year) and Novak and V-Span and to an extent Snyder and Bonzie wasted their entire year. JVG is too focused on winning this year (when the team has no realistic shot at doing so) to get a new contract - and the Rockets brass should be focused on developing a team to win the championship while Yao is in his prime and before Tmac's back goes completely. This was a wasted year as far as finding out about potential pieces of the puzzle.....and JVG and his contract are setting the team back in the future. Who on the Rockets is focused on the long term, because clearly it ain't JVG. DD
To pull this right before the playoffs is very bad timing on his or his manager's part. But, so was his first outburst. I believe V-Span has the talent, and I was glad we got him. If he earned playing time, instead of expecting it to be handed to him, we'd have a very valuable assett on our team. Unfortunately, he has allowed fans and some type of entourage to fill his head with grandiosity. Perhaps it's this manager who has been the problem. JVG wants good players. He needs a backup PG desperately. This isn't happening because he hates Euro players or doesn't like V-Span. When V-Span has gotten in the game, he hasn't done well, nor in practice, and he has allowed himself to get discouraged and blameshift, rather than take responsbility and work to improve, so he CAN be a valuable assett to this team. This is the top professional league in the world. It's not a place to coddle babys. It's not JVG's responsibility to babysit. It is his responsibily to put the best team on the floor. Does JVG put up with crap? No. He hasn't put up with anything less than Bonzi's best or Swift's either. He is pushing for us to win a championship, not provide a platform for V-Span's stardom, or change the team so V-Span has better stats for fans back home. I understand playing to a players strengths, but that's a cover of the real problem. He needs to fit in with the team right now, not get the team to fit him. He can't be the tail wagging the dog. V-Span is not helping his case with the other players either. We have a team of humble hard working players with great chemistry, and this type of stuff only loses their respect more. He should follow Yao's example of improving everytime he fails, and working hard to get better each year. But, we could use V-Span's fire, if it could only be harnessed in the right direction of hard work and team, not me me me. V-Span's dream of playing in the NBA will be forever ruined, if he quits now, and if his manager is speaking out of turn, he needs to get him to shut up.
