Vspan just needs to work on the overhead pass. The trajectory of his overhead pass seems to be way out. But I believe passes are the easiest thing to practice and perfect if you put enough time into it. He has a pretty decent bounce pass and chest pass as he is used to playing in the pick and roll. On the other hand, Vspan's strengths are his penetration and speed, and the killbill mentality. Hope you perfect your passing Vspan, you have the true potential to be an elite pointguard. Go sparta!!
I find it pretty funny that because people like myself said that Vspan should prove himself before talking to the media that now we're "Vspan haters"...I mean come on Just because I'm not a total homer and know Rafer is better than Vspan and shouldn't lose his starting job to a 2nd rounder from Europe who didn't even get very impressive stats in euroleague, that makes me a hater
so, if one is perusing craigslist, and an ad says "no greek", does that mean jvg will keep vspan on the bench?
He probably needs to go back to Greece over the summer, as Eurobasket 2007 (the European Championship) starts September in Spain. Greece has to qualify for 2008 Olympics in Beijing.
Nice translation Alex thanks!!! good to see Vspan keeping his blog up to date and reading clutchfans.!!!!!!! hopefully he can stay with the rockets and not return back to his old team (i'm gonna have to start hate him again ) vasili! you can!! you can make it!!
Olympiakos fan eh? I'm a PAO fan and although I would love him back (our guards this year are hardly as good as they were last year with Span and Lakovic) I'd prefer it if he made a name for himself in the NBA.... BTW, seeing as you probably follow greek basketball, don't you think that judging by the rockets team character (defenssive etc.) and the game of the rest of the rockets players that Dimitris Diamantidis would be the perfect fit for the rockets as a true PG ?
thank you for the translation, GO V-Span....you will be a good player in the NBA one day when given the chance. DD
I like this guy. I don't think he's ready yet as other people do. If he's not upset about playing time right now....why is everyone on the board pissed? I hope he can develop a long range shot because he seems to have all the other tools. He will get in the rotation or traded next year. He should just enjoy the ride for now. I think he should just take his "chump change" and ride the pine for now (I wish I made that much). We can't have an 11 man rotation like everyone seems to want (Bonzi, Novac).
Yeah I'm an Olympiakos supporter. The red and white really suits Spanoulis doesn't it?? My following of Greek basketball is not that great. I' ve been living in Australia the last 10 years and my Greek basketball knowledge has really dropped off. I'm still stuck in the days of Sigalas, Fasoulas Rivers and Tarlac. (and Vrankovic's block ). Good times. The only play of Diamantidis I've seen is from WC so I don't really know his game. He definitely would fit in an NBA team though. One player I would love to see in the NBA though is big Sofo. He even has the NBA troublemaker attitude (doesn't practise complains etc).
V-Span is just perfect! Eimaste mazi sou Vasili! (And for those who don't know Greek: "We are with you Bill".).
eeeeeeeeeee hahahah. Btw Masijauskas started playing again so that's good news for you guys... Sofo would be here next year if he practiced more and hadnt got into that stupid feud with Gherson...He seems to be back in the rotation now so I reckon if he keeps it up he'll be in the NBA in 2008... Too bad you havent seen more of diamantidis.... The guy is an amazing PG ... Best defender in the euroleague by far...Excellent ball handling (I never want anyone else taking care of the ball in PAO games...) excellent reach (very long arms)... Stunning bball IQ....Stats wise, his assists and steals are off the charts + he averages at least 1-2 blocks a game which is amazing for a PG...(NBA fans might remember him as the guy with the excellent block on Chris Paul at the WBC).... Did I mention he shoots 2pters at 60-65% and 3s at 40-45% ? He also dunks a lot which is an accomplishment in itself for a european guard... Too bad the guy has repeatedly made it clear he never wants to play in the NBA.... This is a nice small analysed clip of him defending I could find... <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/E2mNGcpACjI"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/E2mNGcpACjI" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object> But yeah, on to the subject at hand cause I seem to be hijacking my own thread.... Good to see Span in high spirits.... Hopefully he'll shine through next year... It doesnt seem like he'll be in the playoffs roster after all judging by mins given to bench players... BTW, I didn't say that Span would leave for money... I said his agent is probably desparate to convince him to go back because then HE would make more money... The agent gets a percentage of each deal... Last year he got a large amount of money because Span's contract to the Rockets was quite good... Right now, PAO his old team is prepared to pay at least the amount of money required to buy off his contract from the Rockets (5 mill $ until 2009)...And other teams such as Barcelona are prepared to try and outbid PAO... Span's agent is almost salivating at the prospect of getting his client 2 different 5 mill$ deals in a single year... Say he gets 10% off that (dunno what agents really get....just making a point)... It surely is in his best interests to convince Span to leave Hopefully Vasilis won't make that mistake because I really think he has a place in the NBA if he works hard and gets acclimated to the style of play... Vassili, if you're reading this, remember: "To kalo pragma argei" (for non-greek speakers: "good things come to those who wait" )
Great guy! Hope he really had learned the game enough to play a role next year (meaning as part of the regular rotation). We know Alston is too slow for most guards, and doesn't shoot well either. If Vspan can have a game like Tony Parker (ok, even 75% of Tony), he would have been a great PG for us. Tony doesn't shoot well from 3's either, but can hit midrange well enough to spread the floor, and can drive and pass as well as anyone. Go Vspan, you can do it!! We are rooting for ya, buddy!
Hopefully he'll stay in the US, keep working on adjusting to the nba game and prove himself in the US as well. As far as summer goes, it's going to be very busy for him first with the summer leagues and then the national team games. Hopefully he'll do well in both...
