    i hate that fattie...

i remember one time during the playoffs it was miami vs new jersey and shaq got the ball with kristic guarding him.

He bumps, spins, elbows kristic cross the face, dunks on him, and steps over kristic as if it was all his fault.

ofcourse the refs also call a foul on kristic for not getting his head out of the way of shaq's fat elbows

We shot 41FT to their 38FT, looks pretty even to me. What more could they ask for?? Probably because they(or anyone else who exists) are not used to seeing Yao get fair treatment. It's probably cheating when Yao is officiated fairly.

You basically described Karl Malone to a tee. Except instead of Krstic, put DRob there. It wasn't an over the back by Malone. It was Robinson maliciously putting placing his head to hit Malone's funny bone.

And the time he blatantly kneed Hakeem in the balls. Totally Hakeem's fault that he had a pair while Malone is still trying to compensate by buying big trucks.

Agreed. I truly believe that the reason why the refs don't call all of the fouls that Yao gets nailed with every game is because he would be going to the line 20-25 times a game. They just aren't going to make the call that often even if it is the right thing to do.

Kobe deserves an Oscar for this flop. It's so dramatic and the way he fell down is so stylish. I give it a 10.

It actually looks like the same move that Cat used when HE tried to fool the refs in the last game.

The refs got the call right, but it was close to an illegal screen - yao was moving just before kobe got there. Close.

Gotta suck for Kobe though. He blew the game - giving up the 3 ft's and then traveling, and then missing the game-tying 3-pointer.

Kobe Kobe Kobe - hope you have a nice summer after Dallas/Phoenix or SA send's ya home.

It was a hard call. Yao's feet were set and his body was stable at the last second, but you can still see his knee going forward into Kobe. Yao's torso was a foot away from Kobe, though. Kobe flies right past Yao and only falls when both of his feet have already past Yao. It's like a sonic boom.

Yao was already moving away from Kobe once T-Mac got around. That's not even close to an illegal screen.

    maybe... just maybe...

the refs had a little meeting (like they did a few years ago) about how to ref big men like Yao. Last time, they watched video and were instructed to call a lot of fouls on Yao.

Now, they have been instructed not to let Yao's defender put two hands on him, etc.

    regardless, Yao deserves the respect.

That's the way I see it. At first I thought it was an illegal screen as well, but Luke Walton got away with a grab and lock on Hayes to send it into overtime, so I thought they equaled out.

Looking at it this way, it is barely a legal pick, so the refs did a good job not calling a foul on Yao Ming.

Just read an article on whether Greg Oden should stay for one more year (http://www.kansascity.com/mld/kansascity/sports/17008090.htm), and I came accross with this:

"Oden plays at Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s pace and intensity, but Oden doesn’t have Kareem’s skyhook. Without the skyhook, Kareem would’ve been Yao Ming rather than the greatest offensive weapon in the history of basketball. The skyhook was worth waiting on. Oden’s jump hook isn’t. Not yet."

Correct me if I am wrong. But is he saying that Yao doesn't have much offensive touch, a la Oden, or did Kareem, which this dude says was Yao with skyhook, use to hit turn around fade aways, dance in the paint, and find open teammates all over the court like Yao does? Either way, the guy who wrote this does look like a nerd if you go to the webpage.

Yao was definitely stationary when contact was made - but that's not the only req for being a legal screen. It gets complex because Kobe was in motion. And typically, you are suppose to give enough time for the opposing player to become "aware" of the screen and change directions.

Yao was moving at the same time Kobe was. This is in and itself is not illegal. The question comes into play was: Was Yao positioned with enough time/distance to allow Kobe to change direction.

It's hard to tell - really hard. The play happens so fast, and if you slow it down, it becomes hard to see if Yao is moving.

So it was the right call from a standpoint that if there's not enough proof then a no-call is the right call. But the mistake Kobe made was fouling t-mac after getting around the screen. That was just dumb on his part.

Yao has to understand that the reason he got all these FT's last night is because he had GREAT position and took it to the basket. When he settles for his jump shots even if he gets fouled the refs most likely won't call it. Jump shooters don't go to the FT line.
