This movie looks lame. Doing the same types of movie over and over gets very stale and boring. Seriously, this looks like Ricky Bobby on Ice. Stranger Than Fiction was good because it was completely different than his past movies.
i liked this one a lot better than talladega nights. someone said dodgeball on ice, which is somewhat accurate. i'll definitely buy the dvd, even if it was only for the sweet jenna fischer groping.
saw a it today at Edwards, pretty good. It would have to be multiple watch for me to enjoy it or just watch it with friends since I went solo with this one. The "lady humps" scene thats after what they showed in the trailer, i never laughed so hard in my life, best moment in the movie. I agree with the Dodgeball comparison, and thought both were very similar. and yes, Jenna Fischer looked hot, REAL HOT in the movie
Here's Jenna's account of the groping scene...pretty funny: http://movies.about.com/od/bladesofglory/a/bladesjf032507.htm Behind the Scenes of the Groping Scene: Asked how many takes it took to get it right, Fischer joked, “It's not takes, it's number of hours. That was a 12-hour day. That was 12 hours of Will Ferrell massaging my boobs. Like around hour 7 you're like, ‘Man, my boobs don't need any more action for like a few months.’ I can tell you. Like my husband, I was like slapping his hands away for 2 weeks. Like, ‘They're done. No more.’ That was a lot. I mean that's a full 2 minutes on screen of him touching my boobs, so that was like a whole day of that.” Fischer explained the approach to the scene. “The first take is like he said, ‘Okay Jenna, you're married and I'm married and no funny business. Anything that makes you uncomfortable I want you to tell me. I just want you to feel comfortable.’ I said, ‘Okay, let’s just go for it and make it funny.’ He's like, ‘Yeah.’ So we just went for it and as soon as they yelled cut, his hands came off like he was touching a hot iron. He was so respectful. But then around hour 8 it's so normal that they yelled cut and we are discussing the scene with the director and I said, ‘Yeah, dude, your hands are still on my boobs.’ And that was cool, but when we went to lunch and he was still squeezing my boobs and then that night at my car... I haven't been in a lot of films, but he said that was normal - but I'm still not sure. I'm not positive that that was right. He said that was okay and he suggested to promote the film he should play with my boobs. I think that's cool, right? That's how it's done. That's what he said. Yeah.”
Saw the last showing at 10:25 in Katy and I liked it. I kept saying to my wife that I could not see any other comedian do these types of characters, and that Ferrell is THE ACTOR to do this kind of stupid feel good comedies. Heder was an innocent bystander. From the beginning to the end, there are laughs throughout the entire show. I give it a 9 in a scale of 1-10. Spoiler The whole idea of getting a love story into this was to let us know that Jimmy wasn't a homersectual, which was something that everybody in the theater was whispeing to each other. I thought it was nicely built into the story, but the entire Chazz-is-a-sex-addict while Jimmy-is-puritan needed it and they did a good job of combining the contrasting characters MOVIE MISTAKE my wife caught: Chazz places a shampoo or a bottle of something similar onto the top bunk bed, and in the next take, it's not there. I keep seeing JENNA FISHER and think that's the same girl from LIAR LIAR. Neither of them have upper lips. Don't they look alike?
Box office scoreboard. Blades of Victory! Let's just face it: Put Will Ferrell in a comedy and let him show off his hilariously unfit bod, and tickets will be sold. The former Saturday Night Live comedian, starring as one half of a male skating duo in Blades of Glory, handily won the weekend at the box office, raking in $33 million. Coming in second: Disney's 3-D animated adventure Meet the Robinsons, which premiered with $25.1 million. As for the rest of the top five, 300 dropped from second to third place with $11.2 million, taking the film's four-week total to $179.7 million; last week's number one, TMNT, fell to fourth place with $9.2 million ($38.4 million for two weeks); and the John Travolta buddy comedy Wild Hogs hung in the top five, finishing fifth with $8.4 million and boosting its five-week total to $135.4 million. Despite two big earners atop the box office, the overall picture for Hollywood was a downer: The earnings for the top 12 movies for this weekend were off 13 percent vs. the same weekend last year. http://movies.go.com/boxoffice
He's a comedic actor. Either you like him or you don't. I think it's clear where you stand. Personally, I like certain characters that Ferrell played on SNL more than his movies. The question is whether he'll be able to pull off a serious roll at some point. I don't see it. I think he's part of the 95% of SNL actors that are limited to certain typecast roles.
How was Jon Heder? Seems like he's been having a hard time breaking away from Napoleon Dynamite, although I thought he was really likable in that Rees Witherspoon movie.
STRONGLY recommend it. He plays a serious actor but still throws in his humor in the movie to add it, the same way Sandler pulled it off in Reign Over Me. Highly recommend both movies.
Will Ferrell does these kinds of movies like Christopher Guest does mockumentaries. If you like them, you pretty much like all of them. If you don't like them, you think they suck. Personally, I'm dying to see this one.
It was a fantastic movie, but don't go expecting giant laughs. It was a small, quirky movie along the lines of Little Miss Sunshine. I thought both Emma Thompson and Dustin Hoffman were fantastic as well. But, a cast that includes them, Ferrell, Maggie Gyllenhall and Queen Latifa is a pretty good cast if you ask me.
I saw it this afternoon. I can't really compare it to Old School or Anchorman, but I thought it was a top notch comedy. As usual, many of the gags were ruined in the trailer. Spoiler Thankfully, the final skating scene was NOT in the trailer. Also, stick around for the credits for a small scene from the stalker.
