Go to the 3 minute mark in this video. He apparently tends to get very emotional when he talks about kids. http://boss.streamos.com/wmedia/nba/nbatv/operation_rebound_presser_050903.asx
I read your good comments but then I read others bad comments about the Starbury's. So yours is holding up good? I agree about the WalMart shoes post someone else said. I bought a pair and they killed my feet. I ended buying some New Balance shoes and they are great. My advice is is to get name brand shoes at cheap prices, theres plenty of places that you can get $100 Nikes for more then 50% off. Oh, Lebron came off like a uppity snob with his comments. He could have just said "As long as they give me 90 mill, I'll sell my soul to them too!"
At the time he was in FIRST GRADE regular p.e... or just running on the playground. Trust me, they looked great at the start... We got the all black "NBA" shoe that Stephon is wearing on court with the Knicks colors on the sole, etc. First, the laces split on the ends and started running... Second, the stitching along the front of the toes became separated... leading to the sole beginning to flop... Then the eyelets (that the laces go into and through) along the outside of the right shoe completely separated from the body of the shoe, rendering them useless as a pair. If that had happened while playing ball, it would have been certain foot trauma. ---Since then, six months of some Rbk's from Academy and not a problem. And up to that point we'd bought him Nike's or Rbk's, even K-Swiss... on sale no less, for kids but... under $30 every time, and usually right under $20. ---and to think we'd found a way to get through the growth spurts for less money... riiight.--- I'll never buy those fad shoes again. Reminds me of BK or LA Gear... only worse. ---Now to the one who mentioned Dream and the Spaldings back in the day... I NEVER had one issue with those... And I played quite a bit of halfcourt, outdoor, concrete ball back then... EDIT: I just remembered, even my son's Wal-Mart Shaq shoes from a couple years ago were tougher than the Starburied's.
i guess if Nike was to offer Marbury the same contract as Lebron, he's refuse it. oh, and there is nothing morally wrong with wanting to make as much money as you can. we all do it, but somehow we expect others not to.
fwiw, I bought some Ralph Sampson Pumas and Akeem's (name at the time) Etonics back in the day for cheap and they lasted a LONG time. I can still remember that rap that Hakeem had on the radio.. "unbeatable" heh
I've had bad experiences with pretty much every brand of tennis shoes other than New Balance. It just seems like shoes are the type of things that can wear out easily in certain instances. I don't think I've ever let one bad experience with shoes prevent me from ever giving that brand another shot. I do like the mention of BKs and LA Gears. I remember having some of those when I was younger and thought I was so cool. The BK Dymacels were really good looking shoes for their time, IMO.
man Queen James just needs to shut up. Finally a player who's doing a good thing and he comes with a crappy statement. Anyway Marbury keeps it fair with a gain of like $10 and nike is ripping us of for $145. Damn those mass china/taiwan etc shoe productions probably cost like $1 per shoe. The only thing people are paying for is name.
No, just the American ones... I don't mind it, as long as you have several superstars who are students of the game (like OJ Mayo).
My friend's son only wore them on the b-ball court, so that may be why his held up really well. He didn't wear them outside or anything.
It is not the fact that Lebron is trying to make money that people are calling him out on. I am sure with that 70 mil he makes, he donates quite a bit. But the part that was messed up was that he basically insulted the Starbury shoes and what they are trying to accomplish. He could have just as easily said, "Every player finds some way to give back to the community, and I applaud Marbury for his efforts to make himself more accessible to the fans." Or something like that...Didn't diss Nike, didn't diss anyone. Did not make any commitments to do anything himself.
What really pisses me off about Starbury is that every time I try to hate him, he gives me another reason not to. Then he gives me TWO additional reasons to hate him. Man, this guy is toying with my emotions!!
Lebron says standards are high with nike? half their shoes are synthetic material. if i wanted imitation leather, i'd shop at payless. i've never seen a loser like lebron worshipped so much by the media and nba. he hasn't won sht, yet he is talked about like he is the next big thing. he's a good player and athletic as hell. but he's no leader. and he can sure look like a dumbass on the court quite often. and he is still hyped like crazy. usually a player has to earn it. not so for this ass-clown.
He can't be talking about as an active player? Will he be able to in the next 20 yrs or so........Le James also likes to spend a shaq load of money too...which is in contradiction to his goal? Majic Johnson is worth around 950+ million...I think he will be first NBA billionaire. Le james seems shallow and Marbury seems more connected to the regular guy.
