    Yes yes yes! *Grabs popcorn*

Also, Isabel - The fact that you've been dating a guy a couple months and you're already in counseling together can't be a very positive sign.

yup, and i applaud your restraint. some might have used this platform to really lay into her. i mean, for all the personal info she has dropped about you in this forum, i'd guess you have a lot built up inside that you'd love to unload. :)

I wondered the same thing myself. The whole fit of jealous rage thing would be a huge deal breaker for me...

My preference would have been to serve finger foods but the fiance preferred a more sit down meal (so we're going with a dinner buffet). I've been to a wedding that served finger foods before and I don't think there's anything wrong with it...it's your wedding, do what ya want.

A live band will cost a helluva lot more than a DJ; plus the DJ will play exactly what you want them to...we decided on the DJ...partly because one of our friends is a DJ.

And I think I would have originally liked to be engaged for 1-2 yrs...especially with all the planning you have to do. But things kind of changed to speed the process up for us.

YOu're engaged for as long as you want to be. Me and Astro have been engaged for almost two years and most likely will be until next year. You need all the time you can get to plan a wedding.

You fell in love with a wedding band; not an engagement ring so you're gonna need to find one. $275 is about right considering the fact that its probably less than one carat of diamonds and wedding bands are always cheaper. I'd never buy a ring from Sam's but it should be okay considering you know what you're looking for. Since you semm like you don't know all to much about jewelry I'd go to a real jewelry store just for good measure so you don't get screwed.

It depends. If you only have a short cocktail reception then no. If you plan on it lasting a while then yes its rude. If its that much of a burden then don't invite that many people. You invite them, and have them waste loads of time, nmoney and energy on a weekend then yes you have to feed them. Otherwise they'll all think you're rude and cheap. Which will be true if you don't. But doing a buffet is much cheaper than a sit down dinner.

I'd go for a DJ. Live band not so important. Just using an Ipod is seen as being pretty classless though. You can always find somebody you know to DJ though. And DJ's are pretty cheap.

My best advice is to wait because its almost impossible to have a decent wedding for less than $10k. In Houston its particularly hard. Also, you need to join theknot.com too. It's a big help. Oh and buy one of those stupid wedding books. You're gonna need it.

4 real...And a great first post if I do say so myself...oh wait...btw, I'll be waiting for the response all weekend...

I had issues with my g/f at the time seeing me on this site...Not that I have anything to hide, but more of privacy...Kinda like, if there is a guys night out, why the hell do you want to run into your g/f...Everyone needs their space, IMHO...

I'll disagree; I think a buffet can be just as classy and a lot better tasting than a boring sit-down dinner. The guests (unless they're coming from out of town) are eating for free...so I say do what you want. I've been to weddings at VFW's serving bbq and I've had a lot of fun.

Well again it just depends on what you view as "decent." I think ours is coming in a little bit under that. We've had to sacrifice some things (no hummer limmo :( or any limmo for that matter, no big deal really), used connections for others to get a good price (invitations, dj, probably the flowers) and worked the price down for other things (mainly the reception venue). It can be done!!

that's the thing, it's not all about YOU, at least it wasn't for me and mine. we had live bands plural, poetry readings, bbq cooked on the spot by caterers, kegs, an open bar, dope, and merriment, until they kicked us out of the east river park. (it's under the williamsburg bridge in manhattan for those that don't know.) i still have people tell me how great a time that had at my wedding. throwing a great party for your family and friends to celebrate marrying the girl of your dreams is as good as it gets.

I never said a buffet wasn't. I meant that serving one is a cheaper alternative to a sit down dinner where you're served the food as oppossed to just having people come get it. I realize they're eating for free but they also have to expend time and energy and are probably bringing you a gift. They deserve real food, which bbq happens to be.

It can be down but its super hard. It also depends on when and where you hold it and other such things. I think ours will be so expensive because we have a huge guest list. Alos we plan on getting married during the middle of the summer and most likely in Austin which is really expensive.

You didn't read the whole thing did you? My point was that you're asking people to be a part of something special to you, which includes them expending energy and such, so you should feed your guests food.

I realize its not just about me thank you, and so therefore I think its important to put more effort, and essentially money, into having a nice reception.

See this is where I totally disagree...a wedding is about two people (and mix in God if you believe). Yeah you're inviting the people you love to share in your joyous occasion, but it's really not about them, it's not about the dress, the flowers, the posh place you have the reception or how well you can feed them or even the gifts you receive (which should not be thought of as a gift in exchange for a lovely evening and nice meal...you're giving them something to jumpstart their life together). And I think that's where people start to lose their money; getting to worried about having the most extravagant wedding and satisfying the guests.

But then again...I am a guy so my point here is probably moot. :p

I always thought Moe and Finalsbound would be the first CF.net public breakup airing dirty laundry posts.

This is why I'm going back to dating foriegn chicks.

$275 is about 3% of what I paid for my wife's ring, so MORE POWER TO YA MOE!!!!
