Well, My wife and I are trying to get to Las Vegas tonight, and due to the weather, we circled the airport for an hour and missed our connection to Las Vegas. The best American Airlines can do is put us on standby for the 9:30pm flight.....which may or may not take off. And, to top it all off, hotels in Dallas are full.....so we are considering driving back to Austin tonight, getting a hotel and catching the direct flight on Southwest Airlines tomorrow morning. Why would we do that? Because the kicker is that the weather is predicted to be bad tomorow too.....thus we may not be able to get to Vegas from DFW anyway. Dang.....this is frustrating as all heck !! Any suggestions on a work around would be much appreciated. DD - stands for Desperate in Dallas
u should wear a rockets jersey. Are you wearing a rockets jersey right now? They might be discriminating against u.
I just saw a news report and you aren't likely to get out of Dallas tonight and tomorrow's not looking so good either. But a direct flight from Austin might work since dopplar's not showing anything going on close to Austin.
Expedia says that US Airways flys nonstop from Austin to Las Vegas. It doesn't appear anybody else that they list does.
I'm in Wyoming for work. It's BLIZZARDING. One of the people I'm working with up here who's lived here for all of her life said this is the worst spring storm they've ever had. Talked to another lady from Ohio in the hotel a couple of minutes ago, she said that she's seen snow, but never anything like this. I walked down to the street from the hotel and was walking next to the top of a fence line. This stuff blew in yesterday.
WWDD? (What would Dirk Do) One word- Flop. Try it, everyone in Dallas seems to love it. It just might get you out of there.
I didn't share my travel story from a couple weekends ago. Basically, I'm never flying US Airways again, even if they did end up refunding our money for a non-refundable ticket. When a ticket counter person tells me to take it up with God as to why their flight to Philadelphia was canceled due to weather while all other airlines flights to that city weren't, I can guarandamntee you that I won't be flying with them again.
I was stuck there last night also. I missed my flight back to Austin at 9 because my flight to DFW was delayed. I had to wait for the 11:30 flight which didn't take off until probably 12:15 or so. Luckily, I had a first class ticket so they took care of me. However there were over 60 people on the standby list going to Austin. Some people were smart enough to rent a car and carpool back to Austin. Some people decided to sleep in the Airport.
I could not agree more. A couple weeks ago, I made a trip to Lake Tahoe/Reno with some friends via US Airways and we had so much trouble with them. Their service is terrible, and I'm not sure if it is because of the merger with America West and everything, but there is no excuse. They have people working for them that do not understand how to use the computer system, differentiating paper and e-tickets. We all vowed never to fly US Airways, even if they end up being cheaper than any other flight. I wrote a letter of complaint through their site and have not heard from them since. TERRIBLE airline.
I'd be pissed if they told me that. But since they didn't, I find it hilarious. One of those things you wish you could say when someone complains about something out of your control.
If we hadn't already been waiting in line for three hours and my wife wasn't already upset about missing her great-grandmother's 94th birthday party, I may have laughed as well. I ended up getting frustrated and went to sit down while my wife tried to deal with this lady's supervisor who, while being much nicer, was no more help than this lady. I'm sitting ~50 feet away and I could hear this woman screaming at the party that had been standing behind us in line. I finally walk back up there while my wife was talking to another airline and this woman was being called a b**** by this woman traveling alone with a small baby. Apparently, this woman was told she'd be called if the flight was canceled. She had already been in Houston for 72 hours because all her other flights had been canceled and since she didn't receive a call, she packed up, checked out of her hotel room and went to the airport only to find that the flight had been canceled again. They ended up not being able to get her on a flight for another 72 hours. When she finally made it to the front of the line to find out this information, the lady who asked me to call God picked up a newspaper, started reading it while this lady was just standing there. Keep in mind, there was still a three-hour line. I finally went up to get her name and loudly yelled it so everyone who had already dealt with her and were about to deal with her could have it to call and complain. The funny thing is all they told us was a) they couldn't get us to Philly until the day we were scheduled to leave and b) if we didn't want that, we were screwed since our tickets were non-refundable and they wouldn't issue us a voucher since the cancelation was weather related. After being on hold with their customer support line for over an hour, we were told less than a minute into the conversation that they'd refund our money. It was in our account the next business day. Still not ever flying with them, though.
just skip vegas. if you want to gamble take a walk at 3:00am just South of the fair grounds. buy some scratch offs, steel a few hubcaps and then drive back home.
