Just a reminder that Rockstar will release a trailer for GTAIV tomorrow. Countdown site: http://www.rockstargames.com/IV/ FWIW, the game's release is set for October 16th. To help pass the time, here is some speculation from 1UP: http://www.1up.com/do/previewPage?cId=3158264
I could never finish Vice City and barely even started San Andreas...and then I found multiplayer Half Life 2 (Deathmatch). I think the only way I'll play GTA4 is if they have a multiplayer component. It's far more entertaining playing against real opponents rather than trying to defeat a "story". As a matter of fact, I've never even played the real HL2 story game. Whatever they release, I'm sure it will still kick plenty of ass. Excellent franchise of games.
Where will this take place? Is this going to feature several European cities like it was rumored a LONG time ago? (Or am I thinking of something else?) Hopefully by 2050 GTA will integrate w/ Google Maps and you can truly roam wherever you want.
You're missing out. I love my share of multiplayer action...but I first and foremost buy games for their single player campaigns...the only exception was Battlefield II. I never did get into San Andreas; the worl seemed a little too big and immersive for my tastes...plus it moved away from the mafia angle.
Nothing like that is really known about the game, as usual for a GTA game this far from release. We do know that "things will be different" though, whatever that means. We'll find out more tomorrow I suppose.
Simultaneous release on 360 and PS3. They haven't mentioned this at all, but I suppose a PC version could be in the works as well, although released later on down the line. Just speculation on my part though, based on their previous history. Might not even be possible depending on the new engine. edit:
While watching my brother play World of Warcraft I had the idea of making GTA similar to WOW. You create your character, trade, buy, sell items, create a gang, accomplish tasks, and have wars with other gangs over territory.
ITA. Half-Life 2 is the best single-player game I've ever tried. I definitely think there is such a thing as "too big", and GTA:SA reached it. Yes, it was immersive. Yes, it was detailed. But what GTA3 and GTA:VC had that SA did not was an enjoyable character. It was fun to become a mafia-wannabe. It was fun to dress in cheesy 80's clothes, listen to Grandmaster Flash and drive around Miami in a Ferrari. Being a gangbanger, even if only for a little while, wasn't much fun. The whole game was just so downbeat. I wasn't really motivated to spend a half hour driving from one side of town to the other just to pick up a stupid 9mm. GTA just needs to add the Gravity Gun from HL2, and it'll be right back on track.
I still want to see a game that rivals Daggerfall in terms of landmass. GTA:SA feels cramped compared to that game. Of course, you could go "miles" without seeing anything of note, but still.
Ack, indeed. I wonder how long the trailer will be though. Having people hyped for months on end for a 3 minute trailer would be.......disappointing to many to say the least.
Any footage of the new game will get me excited. Too bad it's on PS3. Wish they'd come out with PC version sooner. Might have to get me another 360, since I sold my last one.
Oh how I hated that game. Nothing more exciting than running through nothing for hours to get to a randomly generated dungeon that you run through for hours only to find the item you were looking for was off in another branch close to the entrance.
I'm w/ you on some points. I don't think San Andreas was too big. But as far as storyline and character, Vice City is still easily the best. Like you said it was fun, yet still reasonably believable. In San Andreas you play a 'deep down nice guy' who goes gang banging is just ridiculous. I did like James Wood's agent character and Woozi.
