Sorry-I did not intend to presume How this coach is or what is in his head. I meant it in a positive light that his players respect him-IMHO. He keeps it all business on the court and I like that. I think he is a very good coach
Ahaha... agreed! And while we're at it lets make Novak the GM! We'll also bring back Stro and put him in charge of personnel... or something.
JVG pushes his players hard, but no more than how hard he pushes himself. Players respect a coach who is no nonsense and who rewards hard work. See: Chuck Hayes. I mean, he could be a player's coach, whatever that means, but then when he has to lay down the whip, players would probably feel resentful, possibly betrayed, and will act out. With JVG, the players know what they're in for, so they buy into the system and they get professionalism and consistency as a result.
Gundy is very funny...in a dry way. As long as the players love him and he loves the players, he don't have to have a beer and smile during or after interviews. It means more to me that basically every player he has ever coached loved his way of coaching. I think he will smile WHEN the team brings the trophy back to H-Town.
Signed : Bonzi Boki Jim Jackson Stromile Well you get the idea...not EVERY player loved him......but it is clear you do. DD
Bonzi is a lazy bum who'd rather be dunkin donuts than dunkin the ball. Stromile has no brains. Apparently, JJ was hanging onto the ball too much for Tmac's liking so off he went. And, too bad for Boki...I don't know what happened there. Maybe JVG doesn't like Euros. On the other hand, Yao, Mac, Jon Barry, Rafer, Shane, etc etc seem to think JVG's the best thing since sliced bread.
who cares if he doesn't have alot of personal time with his players...his players like him...Yao and Tracy are happy (thy sound like it) and if the superstars are happy, then the team is happy...just because one or 2 coaches have playtime with their players, doesn't mean every coach has to....Phil Jackson won several championships with 2 teams and he didn't go out to dinner with Kobe, Shaq, Jordan, etc....
I think I saw Van Gundy, Vspan and Jake at Nikko Nikkos and Vspan was explaing to JVG how he could become the TMAC of Houston if given the proper chance
Which reminds me... where are those players today? Stromile is barely a rotation player in Memphis, Boki is coming off the bench for the ****ing Nets, Jim Jackson isn't playing anymore. I don't know where you are getting that Bonzi hates JVG, he's said publically he doesn't hate JVG.
ask jon barry, he use to give jvg a hard time. but i think jvg jokes around with players a lot more than people think
I don't understand why this keeps being brought up when it's been proven, through quotes from players, that he's a different guy behind closed doors. The majority of his players love playing for him.
Signed : Bonzi Boki Jim Jackson Stromile signed, Lazy and a malcontent, mediocrity , old age, and bust.
How anyone can still be even a pseudo-Stromile Swift apologist is beyond me. I still don't get what the outrage behind Stromile being shipped off with Gay was about. Like someone pointed out, Stro is barely in the rotation in Memphis... the worst team in the league. Sending Stromile with Gay was a good way to get rid of a player who we didn't need to be paying for, not to mention getting rid of a guy who had no future here (or anywhere else). And does anyone agree that JVG's melancholy is a bit endearing? His dry sense of humor, pessimism, and physical appearance (that of a stressed out, overworked, and depressed coach) all make him a rather endearing character in my book. The overworked coach with a dry wit who is consumed by his work and drive to stamp out imperfection is a great coach stereotype to fill.
We all know Van Gundy is loved by Yao. That's the most important thing. Who cares if Bonzi hates him? Yao calls the shots. http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?p=2808478#post2808478 We know Van Gundy spends personal time with the players and loves team chemistry and bonding. They keep their mouthes shut now about what goes on. http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/bk/bkn/3523565.html http://rockets.mostvaluablenetwork.com/2005/12/
