Im going on 3 months now and its driving me insane. Ive had pretty good response with my resume, have had several interviews, even a few offers - but the jobs were not what I wanted. Im still holding out for the job that I know will make me happy and hopefully work out financially. Im collecting my unemployment checks (see sig) but sitting around the house all day is driving me nuts. I do odd jobs around the house and this and that, but its not enough. I need to work in the worst way. So whats the longest you've gone being unemployed?
I was out for about 2 months a few years ago. I took 2 weeks to do nothing and then got real bored after that. I ended up back with the same company in a different department with better pay and better work. Lucky, I guess. I didn't enjoy being a leach on society, though.
Marketing (Creative, Analytical, Coordination, Internet, E-Mail) - will consider any industry. I have about 4 years experience, and will work my ass off....
Dude, I feel you pain. I was unemployed for over 9 months one time. The ironic thing is, the longer you go with out a job, the harder it is to get one. I've heard that potential employers start wondering why you've been out of a job so long. I had a few temp things for a week or two, but nothing that helped that much. Some things that I did, or heard about doing. 1. Substitute teach. This is what I ended up doing. It wasn’t that bad really. But the pay sucks. Usually, school districts hire on a monthly basis. I think you just have to have 60 hrs of college and you're good. This is what I did till I found a good job. At least you can put it on your resume. It starts off slow, but after you get to know a few people, you'll get a call nearly every day. 2. To keep from looking like you haven't had a job for a while, you could create a small business for yourself. (Fake of course) and say that you took a break to try something new, and it really isn't working out. Of course the business can go on your resume, and just get a friend to say you did some work for him. Photography works well, or home improvement odd jobs. - my friend did this and it worked well for him. I got a few calls from employers asking what kind of job he did on my driveway. lol.....great job of course!!! There were many nights and days that were very rough for me and my family. I got married with out a job, and was unemployed when my daughter was born in 2005. It's really tough. I was lucky enough to find a great job about a year ago that has been a dream come true for me. Great money, lots of flexibility, really cool people, laid back. Just keep your head up brother. There is a light at the end of the tunnel I promise. ps. Monster is the biggest waste of time in the world.
Under-employed/Unemployed for three years (1990-1993) Got laid off in 1990 and couldn't find a job that made what I was making before I got laid off for three years. Yes, it sucks.
14 months so far.......but am really trying to get the new company funded. After I go to Vegas tomorrow of course !!! DD
Since I stopped being supported (living at home), 14 years ago, I have never been unemployed. Since you sport a Plasma in your garage, I'm guessing that you have a little cash in the bank.
Sold 3 companies in the last 10 years......and took a year off to coach all my kids sports teams, now am ready to get back in the saddle again. Got some big stuff cooking...got to close it... DD
3 months from November 1999 to February 2000 and it drove me crazy. I hated every minute of it. Good luck, Drew in finding a job.
Sounds a lot like me. Well, except for finding the 'light' part. Worked my way through school, been working since I was 16. But it was always just low end stuff, or sales which I'm good at but tired of. Finally finished school (Communications/Production) but after a period of not working (about a month) I'm still stuck not really doing what I want (something in communications) or more importantly pays better. And I get married in July. Here's hoping that tunnel ends soon.
I've been unemployed for 1 month now - that's the longest. But this unemployment is self-imposed. I'll start looking for a job again when I get the urge to. Whenever I start going insane of boredom, I pick up a book or give myself a project, or play World of Warcraft. lol.
13 months. My lifestyle has changed dramatically ever since. Set some goals and keep looking. The longer it drags, the worse it gets, both psychologically and financially. That's what I went through.
I'm just curious, and if it's too personal, don't worry about it, but how has your lifestyle changed as a result?
