Anybody else hates pool or not very good at it?

On a side note, is there ever a good reason to blow off a chick that called you up to shoot pool with her and her friends? You don't have to answer that as it's more a rhetorical question.

    Thanks.

Shooting pool is like playing golf. Both games that its good to be decent at for social situations.

Only difference is that golf is about a billion times more fun than shooting pool.

nice pool hall, ****ty pool hall

it's all smoke, and it's all depressing.

that being said though, i love playing pool anyways... took a few weeks to actually get to the point where i wouldn't miss hitting the cue ball completely... but now that i've got the hang of it, it's pretty fun stuff.

just gotta be with an upbeat group or any group of friends, otherwise playing by yourself's depressing as hell lol

I want to live in a golf clubhouse that has a billiards room.

    Can I do that?

I've been saying this for a while! Would be awesome.

That and a good fishing game.

Anywho, I love pool. I played it for one semester, nearly everyday last year. I got pretty decent at it. When I graduate school (at least the program I'm in now), I want to get a table for myself. I've actually wanted a pool table since I could remember.

I grew up with a pool table. We would also put a ping pong table on top of it to switch things up. Even more than basketball, those were my two best "sports" as a youngster. I have rarely played the last couple of decades and have never been to a "pool hall". Last time I played was during the Pistons/Lakers Finals when my family and some friends rented a cabin in Gatlinburg, TN (which was a huge waste of money). Most disappointing vacation ever.

I'm hopelessly inconsistent at it. I'll play terribly several times, and then have a night when everything seems to click. Very frustrating. I think I could be good at it on the Wii, however. ;)

Pool (like darts, pinball, bowling and any other drinking game) is a zen thing. Find your proper state of relaxation and you will rule. Clench up tight and try to will your way to victory and you will lose. I'm not great at pool. I'm okay. Better than average, but still just okay. But judging from most of the posts from most of the posters here, I'll take my chances with any of y'all. A great pool player is a king among men. A good one's a prince. An okay one is a righteous citizen. Relax, practice (relaxed, though) and you'll do fine. And if you don't do fine but you're still relaxed, you'll be okay with it and you'll still have fun. If not, I don't want to drink with you. Let alone shoot a game.

I like playing pool with angry people. One time, a friend of mine knocked a whole through his roof with the cue, and another time he threatened to "violate" a friend with the cue who was making fun of his missed shots. Good times.

Depending on who you are playing with, the mind games are more important (and more fun) than anything else. I've played guys better than me but I could talk them into choking sometimes.

    Love pool. Here's a cheat-sheet for the not-very-good.

decide which ball you want to hit with the cue ball. take your stick and pretend like your are going to hit it directly (without the cue ball) into the hole. Point your stick through the ball directly to the pocket. this will tell you where you need to hit the ball (with the cue ball) in order to hit the pocket. Now, aim your stick through the cue ball to the exact spot on the other ball. Now you have your aim-Hit the cue ball. This will help you learn a bit.

that being said, I also love darts, but the favorite has got to be Foosball. Played that a lot during college. (17th Street Pub RIP...right Brock?)

Shooting pool and playing golf are both fun.

I like to shoot pool at Slick Willies on 59/Weslayan and also at the one in Stafford.

I like to shoot pool in the back room at the Continental Club, but I love to shoot pool at the Big Easy with that drunk honky that is always flipping the bird at everyone. I like to beat him in pool and watch him slink away and crawl inside a glass of whiskey. :D

I think darts is more fun. And it's A LOT cheaper, especially if you bring your own.
