Think about people that work for 24hr shifts etc, like me. I worked 80 of the last 96hrs. I can eat cold cut sandwhiches for only so long.
You have to go out and enjoy life/lunch...Being couped up all the time sucks...especially if you've worked late religiously, the last place you want to be is in the same chair/desk... I eat out at least 4 times a week for lunch and dinner...its part of being single in the city... Do you save $, sure, but what do you do with the savings...That's the real question...If you blow it on useless crap, then eat, if not, well, still eat...
Generally when I pack something to eat of my own its healthier. I really dislike eating out these days.
Yeah, it does. But I'd much rather go home for an hour. It's a really nice to relax in the middle of the day.
I try to bring my food at least 4 times a weak to work, it's a little anal since I work almost every day...
Isn't that EMPLOYMENT ABUSE? Are you workin' the mines, or somethin'??? Anyway... macalu, I bring my lunch into the office everyday... and I eat in the cafeteria... and... OMFG!!!! AM I TURNING ASIAN!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
I remember when I went to Chicago for business I actually worked with stock clerks who worked 24 hour shifts. They were telling me the only thing that kept them going was the food. They would order in every few hours or so. The managers were cool though, they would make runs to the grocery store to get all the necessary items to make sundaes. The company would pay for this and we ate gallons and gallons of ice cream. And then there was always this one poor guy who brought a sandwich and Doritos. I always felt sorry for him. He didn't have a wife either.
Actually, that's the life. You work 2 days straight and then you get the next 4 off. Plus, the atmosphere is so laid back. The guys I met were stock clerks for Southwest Airlines. They would do the necessary work and then watch satellite TV and then surf the web all night. You're getting overtime for doing things you would normally do at home, plus you aren't by yourself so you won't get lonely. I couldn't handle myself to do that though.
I used to bring my lunch almost everyday for 3-4 years. Then I started working as a consultant and never knew when I'd be at the office or at a client's office. So I stopped doing it. Plus I found that eating out, at least 1-2 times a week, was a good way to build some comraderie with your co-workers, which is infinitely important for networking and future work. Now I'm still consulting but am on site at a specific customer every day, so it's pretty stable. But I still go out to eat because I enjoy it and frankly can afford it now.
lol, don't get me wrong. i love eating out with my co-workers. it just so happens that today, one of the other asian guys said, "ah look. it's only the asian people here." then we thought about all the times we never go out to eat with our other co-workers. it turns out, it happens often. not a big deal really. but the more we thought about it, the more we realized, damn, those folks go out to eat EVERY day.
I leave work to eat everyday. If I don't eat I am usually sleeping. If my coworkers don't see me eat, they think something is wrong with me.
