We are only roughly 4 games behind San Antonio right now. We have a 2-2 season series with them. San Antonio (47-20) has 15 games left to play, and we (44-25) have 13 games left to play. My question to you guys is, what if we end the season with the same record?? How will they determine who gets the third seed since the season series is deadlocked??

San Antonio will get it because of their better conference and division record.

I don't know...someone smarter than me can figure that out. But I have maintained that catching the Spurs should be priority numero uno.

no reason to try to move above the spurs to play the suns.....also i don't think it's realistic to catch the spurs

It's not going to happen. Even if we win all the rest of our games (giving us an 18 game winning streak!), SA would have to lose 5 times out of their last 15. They're playing too well for that to happen.

As well as San Antonio is playing, 4 games to make up is pretty insurmountable. Besides, I like the Rox chances versus the Jazz in the 1st round.

    1. i don't even think catching them is possible. like an earlier poster said, they would have to lose five games out of 15. most likely that wont happen.

    2. if we could take the third seed, we would have to play phoenix instead of dallas in the second round. not good if you ask me. we would play better against dallas.

i'm sure we can continue to play really good basketball and still take the 4th seed and be in perfect position for the playoffs.

I agree with you. I think if we can avoid the Suns, that will give our chances a boost.

Why would you want to catch the spurs and face the Suns in the second round?

The next tie breaker is Disvision record, then conference. We are screwed on both.

Screw that man, even if we had a shot in hell of catching up to San Antonio, I DO NOT want their playoff spot.

Being the third seed means facing the Suns in the second round instead of letting them battle to the death with the Spurs for us.

    NO THANK YOU.

Hey in order to be the "Best" in this league, you've got to beat the "Best"; and that includes facing The Phoenix "Suns". Sooner or later we are going to face them one way or another. Why hide and run away now? Be patient and go through the hard falls, then well get are championship. Why is everybody rushing to get a championship??? I'm not going anywhere!!! :) :) :) :)

We should leave Phoenix and San Antonio to play each other in the Semi Final WC. We stand a much better chance dealing with Utah and Dallas.

If the point is to avoid facing both Phoenix and Dallas in the playoffs, we should stay at 4/5 and let the Spurs face the Suns in round 2. If the Spurs bring their best game they can take 'em. If we somehow move into #3, I have no doubt the Mavs would beat the Spurs in round 2 because they are a bad matchup for the Spurs.

The bottom line is we must win our first round series or this discussion is blowing smoke.

well.. it's not as simple as that. it's about matchups.. I would rather let another team take out our nemesis then us having to. We just don't match up with the Suns. Just like for some reason Golden State has the Mav's #. I would like to see us play the Jazz, SA take out Phoenix, and GS play Dallas.. if all of that is possible.

We would want to catch the spurs so we would play LA instead of Utah in the first round. Its funny how you all are worrying about the second round already. Utah has won more games than us for a reason...

I would rather Houston take chances with Utah (and Kobe could go crazy in playoffs) in the first round rather than facing the SUNS in the second round. If there is one team that Houston has a problem with matchup wise, it is the SUNS.

If we can beat Jazz twice and PHO.. good enough. have this feeling that Lakers will give hard time on SUNS
