Hmm, could be a potentially great addition for the Wolves, if Trent can stay healthy. Big IF........ They are stacked at PF now with Smith (unless he plays a lot of center), Garnett, Trent, etc. http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news/20011002/mintrent.html Timberwolves sign free agent F Gary Trent October 2, 2001 MINNEAPOLIS (TICKER) -- The Minnesota Timberwolves added some frontcourt depth Tuesday by signing free agent forward Gary Trent. Terms were not disclosed. Trent spent the last three seasons with the Dallas Mavericks, who opted not to re-sign the oft-injured forward. He averaged just 4.0 points and 2.8 rebounds in 33 games with Dallas last season, his sixth in the NBA. When healthy, the 6-8, 250-pound Trent can provide rebounding and low-post scoring. The 1995 first-round pick has averaged 10.3 points and 5.1 rebounds in 294 games with Portland, Toronto and Dallas. "Gary will give us a strong and powerful low-post player," Timberwolves vice president of basketball operations Kevin McHale said. "He brings an aggressive attitude and outstanding rebounding skills and he also gives us another low-post scoring threat." During the offseason, the Timberwolves re-signed forward Joe Smith, who played one season for Detroit. They also opted not to re-sign forward LaPhonso Ellis and are trying to work out a buyout of the contract of forward Tom Hammonds, who has a foot injury that likely will prevent him from playing this season. In the lockout-shortened 1999 season, Trent averaged career highs of 16.0 points and 7.8 rebounds, finishing third in Most Improved Player voting
Trent is a nice pick-up for them (minimal gamble with decent possible payoff). Having KG gives them so much flexibility with the kind of player to put at the other forward position. I think people have been way to much counting out the Wolves as a possible middle-ish seed in the West.
Decent pick up for the Wolves, but it isn't going to boost them up considerably. To many team have improved greatly, while the Wolves improved minimally. I think the Rockets are a better team (assuming we get Jackson and re-signing Moochie will help), and I think the Nuggets can stake a claim to. They were playing better then the Wolves before getting injured. I mean this is a Wolves team that was 2 games away from missing the playoffs.
You're such a....a....FREAK! I put a question mark there because I was trying to emphasize that the pickup of Trent on an already PF rich team was odd. Like: Gary Trent to the WOLVES?????
HOOP-T -- he signed with the Wolves, it's official. You don't need a question mark. Didn't you read the article? Did you get a copy of that memo?
The Wolves are better than us right now: 1) KG is fantastic and quite young (arguably he is one of the 4 best players right now). 2) Wally is getting better 3) Brandon is still is very good and isn't freefalling just yet 4) Add Joe Smith 5) Add Trent I am not sure Dallas is better than them. Dallas has had one better year than them out of the last 4, and that was only by 6 games last year. The Wolves certainly play better defense than them, and also the Wolves played SA for more competitively than Dallas did-- even after Dallas took out SA #2 scorer. I just think right now teams are overestimating Dallas and underestimating the Wolves (as well as Portland), based on just a few differences in games over the last 1/4 of last season.
You're OBVIOUSLY not getting it. I was not questioning whether or not he signed with the Wolves. I know he signed, I posted the damn article. Geeze..... I MEANT THAT IT WAS A MOVE THAT WAS ODD IN MY OPINION DUE TO THE OVERABUNDANCE OF POWER FORWARDS THEY HAVE. Thus the question mark. Like, of all teams he signed with, he signed with one that already potentially had two guys in the rotation in front of him. I don't know how to make it any clearer than that, if you still need help, call 911.
I was joking Hoopty. Didn't mean to get you all worked up. And I'll make sure you get another copy of that memo.
Must have missed something. Anyway, not worked up...... Happy posting....all is well......peace, love, and soul.
