It's really a sad state of the mind, but the rush to defend JVG by his apologists shows they are pretty much content with another playoff also-ran following the decade-long mediocrity by the Rockets.

yeah, he's done an awful job this season. I mean, our roster is as loaded as Phx and Dallas isn't it??? We've been healthy all season, haven't we???

when he gives me a real reason to want him fired, then I will be all for it

There you go again. As you define it, what exactly is a "JVG apologist"?

Who in the forum is "pretty much content with another playoff also-ran following the decade-long mediocrity by the Rockets"? Nobody

You are creating a straw man and talking to yourself.

"wnes, wnes, wnes. What's up, dawg? Having fun out there? Okay, listen... Dude, I just wasn't feeling the anti-JVG troll shtick tonight. It definitely wasn't your best performance. Y'know, it was just okay for me. You've really gotta come back next week and step up your game."

I don't think it's a stretch to say that Yao is implying he hopes JVG is fired. The only way vspan's luck would change, would be for JVG to be fired, since JVG will never make him part of the regular rotation. Yao is such an insightful guy. :D

VSpan is the difference between championship and playoff also-ran?????

Christ, I wonder we didn't hear any team coming hard after him before the trade deadline.

Well, Big Yao will be the last one on the Rockets to wish JVG to be fired.

The big fella loves and respects JVG. When he was asked during the summer in China what he will feel if JVG's contract won't get extended and leaves Houston, he said he will surely miss JVG, as he already missed seeing him around during the summer.

He said he had worked with a couple of coaches in his basketball career. He respects Rudy Tomjanovich and Li Qiuping (Shanghai Sharks head coach) as they are fatherly mentors of him. He likes Del Harris as well. But to him, he personally likes stern and demanding coaches like Wang Fei (previous disgraced head coach of the Chinese national team), Jonas Kazlauskas (current head coach of the Chinese national team) and Jeff Van Gundy. He said these coaches are the same. Stern, demanding, no-nonsense, workaholics and never ceased in their search of excellence. He thought players need pressure and be motivated to work hard on their games so as to improve continuously.

    Pryuen,

Thank you for an insightful post on Yao's view of his American and Chinese coaches. That's interesting the he favors a stern coach over a player's coach. I always figured he would favor RudyT's mentoring style over JVG's disclipinarian style.

Statistically, you would be wrong. Abberrations, when totals are low, affect the averages wildly. It's basic mathematics.

Again. No. Unless you are telling me every player you are analyzing is driving against the same talent. I'm willing to bet it's easier for Luther Head and Rafer Alston (yes, really) make layups against a scrub team than it is agains the first teams they usually play against. Otherwise, we could always point back to (pardon me here) Dang Langhi's summer league numbers and say they can transfer to the first team. The reality is .... not bloody likely.

I'm not suprised. Hard-working committed players have reason to prefer hard-working discplinarian coaches both due to similar work ethic and the coach's ability to bring everyone up near their own standard of work.

It probably frustrate the hell out of someone like Yao if his coach lets other players get away with ****ty work ethics and ruins his chance of winning.

Well, Yao Ming is a very classy and traditional guy, and is a man of principles with great personality. .

I'll give you an example how he treated his friends on how he treated Wang Fei, his previous teacher, coach and friend.

Wang Fei was disgraced, ousted and took the blame for losing the gold medal in 2002 Asian Games to the South Korean; he could no longer work in CBA; he is a forlorn figure in Chinese basketball.

Yet Yao Ming remembered him. When China won the Asian Championship in 2003, at the final whistle, Yao Ming told the reporters that China should not forget Wang Fei for all the great stuff and new ideas he brought to Chinese basketball.

And after he got selected and played in 2004's NBA All Stars, Yao Ming decided to gift his 2nd All Star ring to Wang Fei. The ring was sent by courier services and reached the hands of Wang Fei in Beijing.

This is what I see at least 2 Chinese virtues in Yao Ming:

    • Honour his teacher and revere his teaching 尊师重道
    • Provide timely help to friends 雪中送炭

If you consider his position, fame and riches, he would care less about what will happen to Wang Fei and yet he cared !!!

Nice to know. But then that's why Yao can suck so bad initially when he came to the league and become a force in this league in such a short time. He does as he is asked and improves where it's needed. He accepts he isn't the coach, it isn't his offense, and he needs to adapt at least a little to the changes he was presented. The results have been great so far. Barring injury, he's going to be ridiculously good in a couple of years.

DoD, you've got it all wrong. What V-Mac supporters were saying earlier in the season was his numbers were down because he was playing with lesser players. In other words, he would do better thrown in during the most competitive parts of games when opposing players are much better. Of course, this makes no sense to anyone but them.

And when some posters posted on his chatroom to comment on his gift of the All Star ring to Wang Fei, and criticized Wang Fei's failure in the 2002 Busan Asian Games for not using Yao Ming as the go-to-guy, Yao Ming popped up to protect his mentor.

    Here is what he posted:-

Naturally, inquiring minds want to know, who may be the next disgraced head coach of the team in which Yao has played?

apostolic3, you wanna take a guess?

I have it from a very very very reliable source on this matter that those were Colin Pine's picks.

that and the fact they were in Colin's handwriting is the other giveaway.

Yeah, blame his teammates for the majority of his TOs  . You got it backwards, its more like most of his TOs come from bad passes and bad decision making. Probably like 1-5% are at the fault of the other player.
