Apparently, the latest issue of Game Informer says this is the case. It will be priced at $479.99, and the 120GB HDD will retail for $200. This is via NeoGAF, I don't have the magazine. This is the April issue of Game Informer though (April Fools), and I'd prefer something a little more official than forum posts about a magazine. On the other hand, I remember hearing this rumor a while back, and some people are verifying this that would probably know.

    If i already owned a 360 i'd be upset.

If price no longer becomes the difference, why would there be that much reason not to get a ps3?

    Only reasons I see:
    1) How far xbox live is from everything else
    2) FPS freaks
    3) XBox Fanboys

Everyone knows PS3 is technological superior. More and more games are rolling out with two killer apps (MotorStorm and Fall of Man) and one badass fighter (Virtual Fighter 5) already released.

If HighDef is that important to you that you would want to pay that much for an xbox with HDMI, you would get the similarly priced PS3 with the blu ray drive which plays High Def movies and sports games that go way beyond the 9 gig limit of XBOX 360 DVDs.

Why pay 500 for a 360, 200 for a hard drive and another 200 for a HDDVD player which btw will be obsolete in a couple years?

Come on guys, don't hate. The PS3 rocks. Sony Home rocks and with a FREE online multiplayer and a digital media library that will grow to include TV shows and movies and ALREADY sports a ton of game demos, the PS3 is the must have.

it's just hard being a ps3 owner. Everyone wants to hate on Sony and it's just really r****ded. I work with a video game show on public access as the sony kid so I'm as up to date as I can be on the industry and I really wish people would see what is out there.

Anything ppl can find they will bash sony with

Don't know if I was clear about this, but I'm pretty sure the $480 SKU includes the 120GB HDD. Otherwise, you'd be paying $80 for HDMI basically. I doubt that is the case...or I hope it isn't anyway. I think that was what the previous rumor stated anyway.

This SKU might even include WiFi actually.

    Sony is hardly the victim.

Man, if you've been playing games long enough you have seen this before. Atari fell, Nintendo fell, now it may be Sony's turn. They made some decisions that a lot of people don't agree with. Not everyone who doesn't own a PS3 is just a fanboy.

I'm sure it was tough being a Gamecube owner or N64 owner. I'm sure it was tough being a Dreamcast owner.

You can't make a fanboy post (i.e. going in a 360 thread talking about how 'there's no reason not to own a PS3') and in it call other people fanboys.

Anyway, on topic, the HDMI isn't a big deal to me. The 120GB HDD is. I'd really like to have that on my system one way or another. I hope there's an easy way to transfer your data when/if this happens.

I guess I am a fanboy now. My PS2 was stolen so I got an xbox because I would have felt worse buying a ps2 for the 2nd time and I loved it. I was a halo kid, KTOR, on live every night. Things changed when the new systems came out. I think the PS3 is better so I guess I'm a fanboy now. I don't think that's a bad thing, My point was that one of the big reasons why people would get a 360 is because they are just loyal to it.

2nd I understand what you are saying about being a dreamcast owner. (N64 did incredibly well and Gamecube...well it was just not a great system)

You are right, Sega got a raw deal but would you fault a dreamcast owner trying to fight for its reputation? I'm not here asking you to take pity on me. My post was not like that all. I was pointing out why I thought this announcement only made the PS3 a better option.

I'm sure there will be a way to transfer data. Can you connect an external hard drive via USB?

I didn't call you a fanboy (though, I mean, c'mon, you're the 'sony kid' on a public access video game show. I think that means you have strong tendencies :) ) but that post is a pretty fanboy type post. Trying to take this and immediately spin it into a reason to get a PS3, then following it with a PSA on how great the PS3 is? C'mon man.

Second, saying that people only buy 360 because they are 'loyal to XBOX' doesn't help your argument either. I mean, you just said you were a big XBOX guy, but you changed your preference. Why can't that happen to other people, just in the opposite direction?

Third, the only reason I brought up Atari or Nintendo or Sega is the point that, unless you think masses of fanboys are switching sides every generation, then there are a lot of reasons why a system will struggle or fail. It's not as simple as 'fanboys are just hatin'.

Usually it's because of stupid mistakes on the part of the respective company.

All consoles have their strong points and their weak points. And, at least for right now, a lot of people see more weak points for the PS3.

If you think that the only reason for that is that they are all just 'haters' or fanboys then, well...man, you might want to rethink that.

In any case, the PS3 could still be fine, you never know. But even if they don't 'finish' in first in stupid console wars, that doesn't mean they have just dropped off the face of the Earth.

Anyway, yeah I figured there'd be some way to transfer data. It's just my pessimistic side worrying. :)

Fanboys were actually one of 3 reasons I listed for the Xbox being a good system.
    "Only reasons I see:
    1) How far xbox live is from everything else
    2) FPS freaks
    3) XBox Fanboys"

I think that's fair to say a lot of ppl buy out of loyalty.

And you are right, some systems fail due to decisions made by the company. I don't think Sony has done enough for that to be the reason the Playstation should get getting this type of reaction. I just want to point out a lot of the things I think people don't want to realize in an effort to show how a lot of the negative views they receive are due to a relatively unmotivated hostility.

I do feel bad at this point that the thread has lost most sight toward the 360. I suppose we should save the PS3 talk for another thread.

I almost completely agree, but you have to admit that XBL is much more polished than the Playstation online system. XBL is easier to use, by making communications easier and therefore making gameplay more fun. However, I can't knock Playstation that much because XBL's been around for a looooooong time. Maybe PS online will be the same? I dunno, but all I know is that I can't wait for Halo3.

    I have a 360. The reasons I got the 360:

    1) Halo 3.
    2) 360 and my media center PC work very well together.
    3) XBOX Live.
    4) It was out while PS3 wasn't.

Personally, I think HDD will beat both BluRay and HD DVD.

I dont know, but I see consoles in the future just struggling. Prices are getting to high, and they are basically turning into computers, might as well save the money and build a gaming computer. Thats just my opinion though, I have a 360 right now, its awesome, love it..but the next generation consoles...i dont think i'll buy, be way to expensive imo.

Hmmm, Explain. I'm not sure that is very affordable or efficient. It takes me 30 minutes to download a full HD movie trailer online. Is there another way ?

Maybe that could happen someday but I'm not sure that can happen in the next few years when so much money has been put into the new formats.

These consoles will probably last longer than usual, which kind of makes for a better investment. The Xbox launched at $300, but it was gone in 4-5 years; the 360 launched at $400, but the next Xbox may not be out until 2012 or so, giving you 2-3 more years of service for only $100 more (of course, you could wait 2-3 years, pay no premium, and still get ~5 years out of the system). Similar story for the PS3...well, if the PS2 would hurry up and die off anyway. ;)

Actually, given how much life is still left in the PS2 and how much life there seemed to be left in the Gamecube and Xbox, this generation of consoles probably started a year or so too soon.
