Most important thing he brings to the team thus far since the Yao/Tracey era began:

    1. He's better than Tyron Lou.

Everything else I was going to say has been said.

The biggest question is: who could we get that is better?

He's a solid player who is worth about what we pay him (5 million or so?). Low turnovers and good bball IQ. He's in the Earl Watson/Luke Ridnour category.

There's not much in the way of better PGs out there who are available. The only ones I can think of who are CLEARLY better and who other teams would be willing to trade are: Andre Miller and Stephon Marbury. But they have their warts and are a heck of a lot more expensive.

Potential upgrade PGs for the Rockets (who could be traded if our GM managed to pull off an incredible deal): Kirk Hinrich, TJ Ford, Mo Williams. Any of the other better established PGs are impossible to get.

Rafer is okay most of the time. He's never been the first or the second choice on the offensive side. I never expect him to be the guy who scores the most. But when he shoots the ball, he should do it at the right time. I'm pissed off when I see him pushing the ball to the front and attemp a jumpshot when the other guys are still behind him. He should also improve his layups and stop doing his terrible teardrops. Overall I am happy with him.
We should find a backup for Rafer. Lucas Jr III is really terrible. I don't understand why the Rockets want to sign him. I hate that guy.

Rafer is solid....now...if only we can have a solid backup-PG.

I think our team's weakness is in the frontcourt,

He is our best point guard. He may not start on most teams, but throughout the season we've been at our best when he's on the court.

    not bad

we almost made it thru two pages without a horrible post.

I honestly expected the flood of "haters" to show up quick.

I cant actually add much to the list of good qualities Rafer has, I agree with what most have said.

runs offense better than any Rockets PG in years....check
    Doesnt make stupid turnovers....check
Can handle the ball under pressure....check
is a good to great passer....check
    is a decent outside shooter....check
    good at steals...check
    a very underrated defender....check

I also just wish he would quit those assinine floaters, if you cant get all the way to the rim, pass the damn rock.

The sheer amount of hatred the guy gets around here is way overblown.
Almost makes ya wish he would have gotten injured for a few games so the whiners can see how important he is to this team.

The V-span comment was hilarious!!!!!!! and so true. Take away the tear drop and rafer is a better than average PG.

Oh c'mon. Rafer has improved his D, I'll give him that but he is not one of the top 5 defensive pgs in the league. imo in no order (Kidd, Billups, Hinrich, Livingston, Iverson).

Oh HELL NO!!!!! AI and Livingston. Livingston isn't there yet. He has the ability but like is overall game he hasn't consistently played at that level yet. It's obvious that seeing AI on top of the steals list as fooled you into thinking that he gets those from D'ing up people. He overplays every passing lane and gets burned for it all but 2-3 times per game.

i wouldnt put rafer in the top 5 but iverson? does he even try to play d? he'll get his steals because he is quick but his on the ball defense is not good.
