Moreno in the middle? I'm not too confident about that. He can distribute, but can he, or better yet, will he come back on d?
They did it once last year and have been trying it some this preseason. I think in all of their preseason games last week Moreno was in midfield. Here's their starting lineup against Chivas USA last week. -------------- Wells ------------------ Gray -- Cochrane -- Waibel -- Barrett -------------- Clark ----------------- Mullan ----- Moreno ----- Davis ------ Wondo --- Dalglish ----- I expect to see the same thing but with Ching up top instead of Wondo. Moreno doesn't really go towards the goal much to begin with, he mainly holds up the ball then passes it back or falls down when he's playing forward. Hopefully he'll be a bit more aggressive in the midfield role.
if you go to mlsnet.com, it says it is being postponed due to a power outage. it's been raining hard all day.
Just got back. Lightning struck a tree and the branch landed on a transformer knocking out the power to Robertson. They're talking about having the makeup game tomorrow but no decision has been made yet.
That kind of sucked. I spent the whole day thinking about the game, and now I'm going to spend all day tomorrow thinking about it. And then spend Friday thinking about the win.
I went to the game and was pleasantly surprised that I enjoyed the game more than I thought I would. I'm a huge soccer fan but was never big on MLS. Something about rooting against Mexico had me into the game. It also didn't hurt that I was sitting on the 2nd row.
You should come out to more games. The level of play obviously isn't the highest in the world but at the same time most people can't go to an EPL or La Liga or Serie A game too often. There's something to be said about actually going to a stadium to see the game in person. I'd take watching the Dynamo in person over watching some foreign team that I don't have a connection to on TV any day of the week. And I think we proved yesterday by beating the Copa Sudamericana champs that we've got a damn good team. Getting a 2-0 win was huge, that gives us a cushion and hopefully we can hold onto it in the second leg. It's going to be tough though.
Great game and result, although definitely a tale of two halves. Pachuca dominated the first 45 minutes and we were lucky that they didn't score. We played much better in the second half and finished well. The next leg will be difficult and we're fortunate to at least have a one goal cushion.
DrLudicrous...what's the rule about road goals in this tourney? If, for instance, Pachuca wins 3-1 in the 2nd leg, will it go to extra time or do Dynamo win (3-3 aggregate, Dyanmo 1 road goal)?
Home and road goals count the same. If it ends 3-1 it goes to overtime then penalty kicks. Them getting the second leg is a huge advantage, Pachuca is up in the mountains so Houston will be fighting the altitude and if it goes an extra 30 minutes it's going to be that much tougher for them. They just need to take care of business in regulation.
Its very hard to play in Pachuca, they fans are very noisy, a lot of teams in the mexican league loses there, but Dynamo is a good team, it will be a great matchup.
For the record, an MLS team has never won on Mexican soil. If Houston scores first, the game is their's to lose. But it's going to be tough.
