He was 55. Atkinson police responded to a call for help at 1:20 p.m. and found Delp dead. Police Lt. William Baldwin said in a statement the death was "untimely" and that there was no indication of foul play. Delp apparently was alone at the time of his death, Baldwin said. The cause of his death remained under investigation by the Atkinson police and the New Hampshire Medical Examiner's office. Police said an incident report would not be available until Monday. Delp fronted the rock band, who rose to fame in the late 1970s and had several hits, including "More than A Feeling." The group sold millions of records. So sad. Boston was one of the first albums I bought as a kid. Despite the "corporate rock" label, I really felt that they wrote great, timeless songs. I actually found this out this morning. Delp, IMO, was one of the most underrated rock vocalists ever. This guy had incredible range. Very sad.
RIP Brad Delp Boston was supposed to be touring in Spring or Summer. But, that has been cancelled obviously. It will be interesting to see where the band goes from here. I think their running out of original members. Isn't there only one original band member left (in the band) now? I only saw them once in concert way back along time ago. I remember it was a good show but some of their fans at the show were total idiots. It kind of ruined it from where I was sitting. "Hey, let's act like drunk r****ds at a Boston show everybody!" Umm...no.
Some of the finest memories of Galveston in the late 70s. Cruising the sea wall and west beach on a hot summer day with Boston blaring and passing beers between cars and talking **** to girls. Good times! RIP Mr. Delp
I can't personally...but Wikipedia can. One thing about Boston is I could never put faces to the band. To me...it was all about the music. Even when I saw them in concert...it was still the music with a bunch of peeps I didn't recognize. Although, I seem to recall one guy with a huge afro. I wonder if that was Brad. I think anyone who grew up in the 70s/80s went through the "More than a Feeling" stage. Doo doo...doo...doo doo...duh...dah duh duh...dah duh duh...doh..."more than a feeling...i feel all tingly...slipping away".
Okay... Wikipedia has a summary of the band's history... Here's how I feel about it... Boston was Tom Scholz and Brad Delp. Tom's guitar work and Brad's vocals were extremely unique. Other bass players, drum players, keyboard players, etc. came and went in Boston, and the music changed, but Brad and Tom kept the same Boston feel to the music. So it's very sad to me that Brad is dead. This is the end of Boston. Tom may continue to record and tour with another singer, but they won't be Brad, and so it won't be Boston. It is rare that a band is able to replace a vocalist and still crank out great music with the same feel (only ACDC has succeeded in this, that I can think of). I don't see how Boston could do it. Damn. When those old songs from Boston come on, you just can't help but to start singing along with them and trying to see if you can keep up with Brad. Damn.
I see a name change coming...something like "Boston of the 21st century (minus the first 6 years and 3 months)" or the "More than a Feelers". Of course, we may never see Boston again. I never saw the Bee Gees again after Maurice Gibb died. Barry said the band was done...even though he and Robin have that successful show on Saturday Night Live. That's about all the Bee Gees I get any more.
Yea, Tom Scholz has always been in Boston since it his baby but Brad Delp was a big part of the Boston sound just like Scholz's guitars. Their 1994 album "Walk On" actually did not have any Delp vocals on it (a guy named Fran Cosmo sang on it instead). However, the 2002 (they seem to release a new album every 8 years with the notable exception of "Don't Look Back") album, "Corporate America" had both vocals by Delp and Cosmo along with one song that had female vocals to it! (that album is actually not that bad - better than "Walk On"). I had heard that Boston was supposed to release a new album this year (breaking their 8 year interval - as this was going to be a 5 year interval), but I guess that is not going to happen now.
I did not realize that Tom and Brad released a new Boston album in 2002 and I'm gonna listen to it tonight. And, yes, wikipedia confirms that they were in the process of making a new album. If they were in the final stages of the album, I guess it might possible that Brad had recorded enough singing for them to master and release the album.
Like Manny posted, Delp had a really good voice and was very underrated IMO. Saw Boston in concert a couple years back and it's still the best concert I've ever seen. I didn't expect much going into the concert but they were awesome.
Just in...Brad Delp committed suicide by piping in carbon monoxide using a tube run from a car exhaust into a bathroom where he was found dead. Uncool. Dude had a fiancee, a tour coming up, etc. and he does this? I don't understand some people. He must have been mentally ill.

"He gave as long as he could, as best he could, and he was very tired. We take comfort in knowing that he is now, at last, at peace." Delp, 55, died Friday at his Atkinson home. Fiancee Pamela Sullivan found him. Toxicology tests by the state medical examiner's office showed that Delp committed suicide by carbon monoxide poisoning, said Lt. William Baldwin. Delp also left two notes taped to a door and letters to his family and Sullivan. Baldwin said police do not know the contents of the letters. The family's statement said Sullivan, Delp's children and their mother, Delp's ex-wife Micki Delp, were grateful for the sympathy they had received. Brad Delp joined Boston in the mid-1970s and sang two of its biggest hits, More than a Feeling and Long Time. Delp had planned to marry Sullivan this summer during a break in a tour with Boston. A lifelong Beatles fan, Delp also played with a tribute band, Beatle Juice. Beatle Juice performed a benefit last year to help build a new public library in Atkinson, a small town of about 6,000 residents on the Massachusetts border. The family said last week it planned a private funeral followed by a public memorial to be scheduled later.
