It took 32 years for that guitar solo to end. Heart was the 2nd concert I ever saw in the late 70's. My hearing has never been the same. The belong in there.
no kidding... if you're talking about pioneers of the punk rock scene, you simply can't look beyond Iggy Pop.
Probably Neil Young - he just has to perform with the new inductees every year . BTW, I wonder who Bono will induct this year - it's just not the RNRHOF unless he gives a long-ass speech that has juvenile rhymes and references to 3rd World Debt. I refuse to watch these shows - anything that claims to be a celebration of music but has more talking that playing is worthless.
Velvet Revolver. VH will not preform. Not attending: EVH is in rehab. DLR is pissed that he won't be performing. AVH is not his own man. That leaves Michael Anthony as the only original member (though not current member) attending. Hagar will also show.
Did anyone catch this last night on VH1 Classic? I switched over when it became clear that the Rockets were not going to win. No, not the 1st quarter. I only caught REM and I must say...being an old school REM fan, I was blown away that 2 of the 3 songs they played were Begin The Begin and Gardening At Night. Talk about bringing back some nice HS memories. Then Eddie Vedder joined them onstage for Man On The Moon, which I thought was pretty cool too. It was also great to see Bill Berry back behind the kit. That was a nice surprise.
I watched it. REM was the highlight, no doubt about it. I'm right there with you in regards to Bill Berry behind the kit. That man's meter is amazing. Patti Smith was fun to watch as well. I forgot how much I enjoyed Lenny Kaye's guitar playing.
The Furious 5, well 4 actually, were saying some things that got me to wonder exactly what it is about rap music that guys who are legends like them are just not respected by many young fans and seem to only be aknowledged if a current rapper is sampling something they did. Why is it that no rappers from that era seem to be able to still put out albums regularly and tour like say REM? I too was happy to see Bill Berry back there and I think he's going to play with them one more time for the Georgia Music Hall of Fame induction. I was hoping they'd play Radio Free Europe, maybe they'll do it there and it'll find it's way on to Youtube, in the meantime, here's their first ever national tv appearence: I didn't know Springsteen wrote "because the night." Is it true he has his own version he performs with his own verses?
i didn't know eddie, alex, and dlr weren't going to be there, so i recorded it for nothing. guess i should have read this thread. i'm a velvet revolver fan but that cover was crap, mainly cause of weiland. i liked the guy in the audience, yelling "that's not van halen." i did like the whole vedder intro and the rem performance, that was nice.
LOL, I just saw this post. You pretty much nailed it. Except you forgot to add Paul Shaffer running around pointing at people while doing his best to get as much camera time as possible during the 'jam session' at the end.
Hold on now, Bono doesn't bring his politics into the Rock Hall ceremony, I just perused his Marley and Springsteen speeches. Now if I could just find out how many times Neil Young has performed. Though, don't Keith Richards and Eric Clapton take the cake on most performances at the ceremony?
is paul shaffer the greatest keyboardist of all time? and if not why is he EVERYWHERE? not just rock n roll hall of fame, but any large jam session he seems to be a part of.
Yeah, how could I forget - Paul Schaeffer is like the dorky friend of your parents who always brags about the time he traded licks with one of Molly Hatchett's guitar players in a guitar shop and then tries to trick you into letting him sit in with your band at your next gig. When you try to explain that your band doesn't do classic rock covers, he says, "That's OK - I got some licks that work with any kind of music" (translation - I only know 3 licks and will play them over and over until somebody kicks me off stage). My sister and I were talking about the RNRHOF, and she suggested that instead of the usual camera hogs, they should find the most rabid, demented fan of each band to induct them. This is what I would expect: REM - Skinny, pale bald guy wearing a "Vegetarians for Peace" T-shirt who spends most of his induction speech explaining how Flannery O'Connor's Wise Blood was the band's primary influence and punctuates his speech with a "NO MORE BUSH!!!" The Ronnettes - A 50-something Hollywood drag queen who in between mentions of his/her new, all transvestite "The Music of Phil Spector" revue show, thanks Ronnie Spector for making go-go girl fashion "classy." Van Halen - Drunk, 40-something mullethead with a massive gut (barely covered by his 20-year old 'Diver Down' concert T-shirt) who brags about how he was the only guy in high school who could play 'Eruption.' Accidentally says "Yankee Rose" and "I Can't Drive 55" when listing all of the band's great songs. Patti Smith - See REM, only replace "Skinny, pale bald guy" with "Skinny, pale grey haired lesbian" and "Flannery O'Connor's Wise Blood" with "Rimbaud's Une Saison en Enfer." Grandmaster Flash & the Furious Five - Some white middle class high school kid from the suburbs who compared Grandmaster Flash "The Message" to The Autobiography of Malcolm X in his senior synthesis paper.
I'm still ticked off at Paul Shaffer for the "show" he did in Austin some years back. He shows up with a couple of guys from UT, who he didn't know from Adam, expecting them to play with him. After an embarrassing half hour or so, the dude splits, leaving a stunned, sold out Bass Concert Hall audience wondering what the hell they'd just sat through. At least Shaffer enjoyed the money, I'm sure. I didn't watch Letterman for at least a month after the fiasco.
That sucks. On the other hand, Will Lee (Letterman bass player) came to Sam Houston when I was there. His parents live in Huntsville and he was there visiting them. He could not have been cooler. He talked to us for about an hour answering all our dumb questions. Then he played with the jazz band for a while. We gave him a "Huntsville Bass Club" fishing cap (bass fish, bass guitar, get it?) and he laughed and said he'd wear it on Letterman. He wore that cap the whole next week on the show.
Patti Smith The Ronettes Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five These acts made it in and Iron Maiden didn't? Tells you all you need to know about this so called "hall of fame".
