i've said it before, i'll say it again: it's my opinion they never had any notion whatsoever of trading carr. i'll be absolutely shocked if he's not a texan next year. this was all a caluclated plan to placate fans.
it won't work. and if true, it shows what a patsy carr must be to go along with it. They are all a complete joke if true.
Eh, I don't buy it. Maybe I would if Kubiak hadn't benched him twice last year. And Sage probably would have played out the string had he not been injured.
I don't think they ever thought "We have to and we will trade Carr" I don't think they ever thought "We will not trade Carr" I think that they are thinking "Lets see if we can do something absolutely better than Carr, if not, we keep him until we can."
That sounds a lot more plausible than some conspiracy by the Texans. But it's more fun to b**** about them if you believe that.
You think pretending to be interested in getting rid of Carr but appearing incapable of even doing that is going to placate fans? It seems like it would just make things that much worse. Now, not only do you still have Carr, but you (being the generic fan) believes the organization even knows he sucks and tried to get rid of him and couldn't. If they really were thinking this, they truly are a terrible organization.

the offseason began with mcnair and smith making the media rounds; they both said essentially the same thing: carr was inconsistent; he needs to get better. in fact, here's mcnair's quote from the february 7 chronicle: now, i could point out that he said "additional help," as opposed to "someone else," but let's table that for now: for those who believe their intention was to trade david carr, why in the world would the owner and GM both come out and publically talk down the QB? why? i want at least one viable reason. what good did that do ANYONE, save for the people who might be interested in carr? smith then confirmed that yes, indeed, teams have called about carr. to this day, those teams remain a mystery. in an age in which nothing is ever private, there's been only cursory mention, more speculation, as to who those teams were. was it a story the texans concocted to try and create a market for david carr (as has been widely assumed)? if so, wasn't the value at least partly hit when both the owner and GM publically talked of his inconsistency and need to improve? so in the span of less than a month, they dented his value... and then tried to rebuild it....? of course, the r****ded sheep at the chronicle jumped all over it. then a flood of QBs come available... all but, apparently, carr. plummer, the guy we were told repeatedly was kubiak's personal choice, is dealt elsewhere for a day 2 pick. garcia, the NEXT guy we were told was, we promise, topping the texans' wish list, signs with somebody else... and carr continues to go absolutely nowhere. no widespread mention of his availability, no rampant rumors of his impending trade... my guess is we'll all be reading an article this summer about how teams did, in fact, ask about carr, but never offered what the team felt was fair value for a QB of his caliber, and they were more than happy to have him back for another year working with gary kubiak, etc., etc. and in the process, they admitted carr is an issue, they looked proactive in trying to upgrade his position... but, what could we do? oh, well.... imo, it's not unlike mcclane's prior penchent for publically "bidding" for free agents not because he ever had any intention of actually signing them (the offer was always lowball), but to try and placate the fan base clammoring for a big, splashy free agent acquisition. just mo, of course.
I don't necessarily disagree with your argument. I just wonder if its really effective. You've argued quite a bit with the anti-Carr crowd. Do you really think they will be more satisfied with having Carr on the team under the circumstances you described vs. just simply Kubiak saying "Carr had a rough year, but he has a lot of talent and we think we'll be better and he'll be better next year." It just doesn't seem to me that this strategy will placate fans very much.

well, as a member of the anti-carr crowd, you tell me. i think their plan was to (seemingly) throw themselves on the sword - "we will, at last, acknowledge your many complaints, anti-carr crowd - he's inconsistent; he needs to get better" i would think that would placate more fans than, "you know what? we STILL think he's the guy: he just needs better receivers, a running game, a new offensive line......" no? and if the anti-carr crowd then buys it (and, by all accounts, they have), can you really be upset with the texans - given it takes two to tango - that they weren't able to broker an agreeable deal for a guy you don't think is worth anything, anyway (even if said "deal" is, unbeknowst to us, fake)? don't they get an A for "effort"? i mean, it's certainly possible i'm out of my mind. but it made no sense for mcnair and smith to go on the anti-carr offensive and THEN try and create a market for him. and speaking of, WHERE IS CARR? why are we not being hit daily with "it's a business; i understand" quotes from him? hasn't his nearly unanimous absence been somewhat strange? he's like a ghost. is it because he's DOA?... look, i don't think the texans have crafted some elaborate plan to get one over on the fans. but i think they recognized two irrefutable facts: a) they had a massive PR problem on their hands; b) being able to upgrade the position was by no means a given. so they came up with a way to create some space for themselves...
Eric Winston and Ephraim Salaam have no business starting OT in the NFL. One could hope that Black does and that Spencer recovers.
The problem with that plan, Ric, is that the Texans have to know that there's a very vocal part of the fanbase that wants Carr gone regardless. They can act like they tried to trade him all they want. For a lot of them, cutting him and taking the cap hit is acceptable.
i cant believe you guys still think carr might stay. sheesh. he is selling his houston home and i got pics to prove it...plus, the news already said that sgae will be battleing for the starters job against any FA they bring in now...get a clue morons.
