Father, daughter die in suspicious plane crash

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana (AP) -- A pilot took his 8-year-old daughter up in a small plane Monday and crashed it into his former mother-in-law's house in southern Indiana, killing himself and the girl, authorities said.

A preliminary crash investigation leads "us to believe that this was an intentional act," Indiana State Police spokesman 1st Sgt. Dave Bursten said.

The crash in Bedford, about 20 miles south of Bloomington, killed Eric Johnson, 47, of Bedford, and his daughter Emily, Bursten said.

Emily did not go to school Monday, and Johnson's ex-wife, Beth Johnson, went to Bedford police headquarters about 11:30 a.m. to say she believed he might have abducted the girl, Bursten said.

That was about 45 minutes after the Cessna crashed into the residence of Eric Johnson's former mother-in-law, Vivian Pace, Bursten said.

"It is just gut-wrenching to think about what was happening to that child just prior to the crash," Bursten said Monday night at a news conference in Indianapolis.

Father and daughter had been on a trip together, but Beth Johnson expected the girl to be in school by Monday morning, Bursten said.

"She had a feeling this morning something was wrong," Pace told WISH-TV in Indianapolis.

Authorities will not know for sure whether the crash was intentional until the National Transportation Safety Board completes its investigation, which could take up to a year, Bursten said.

State police had no record of disputes between the Johnsons, Bursten said.

Earlier, before the pilot was identified as a relative, Pace told The Times-Mail newspaper that she was in the living room of her one-story home when the plane struck the side of the building. She said everything fell off the walls.

She said she had heard a plane making a "horrible noise" before the crash.

The crash happened near Virgil I. Grissom Municipal Airport, where the plane had been leased, state police Cpl. Eric Dunn said.

Witnesses said the plane appeared to be trying to land when it veered sharply and went out of sight, The Times-Mail reported on its Web site.

There were no reports of injuries on the ground, though the impact left much of the plane lodged inside the house.

Police say father told toddler, 'Now you stab Mommy'

BRIDGEPORT, Connecticut (AP) -- Police say a man repeatedly stabbed his teenage wife, then gave the knife to his toddler son and told him: "Now you stab Mommy."

Fermin Rodriguez, 21, attacked his 17-year-old wife Sunday night, after accusing her of cheating on him, police said. He slashed and stabbed her multiple times, then handed the knife to his 2-year-old son and told him to stab her, police said.

Police would not say whether the boy did as his father said.

Rodriguez was charged with first-degree assault, first-degree reckless endangerment, first-degree unlawful restraint and threatening. He was being held on $350,000 bond.

His wife, Keyschla Rodriguez, was taken to a hospital for treatment of stab wounds to her chest, face, arms and legs. Her condition was unavailable Tuesday morning.

I think in Texas you can marry a minor if you have her parents consent, there could be a similar law in Connecticut.

BEDFORD, Indiana (AP) -- "I've got her, and you're not going to get her."

Beth Johnson heard those words from her ex-husband Monday, shortly before he crashed his rented single-engine plane into his former mother-in-law's southern Indiana home, killing himself and the couple's 8-year-old daughter.

The mother-in-law, Vivian Pace, described the cell phone call Tuesday as investigators tried to determine why student pilot Eric Johnson strapped his daughter into the plane's passenger seat and apparently crashed the plane deliberately into the one-story house.

Pace said she has no doubt that the crash was intentional because Johnson had been harassing his ex-wife for months, including buying a house three doors down from hers.

"That was the only way he could hurt Beth," she said. "That was the only way he could get to her."

In the cell phone call, Pace said, her daughter could hear the child in the background saying, 'Mommy, come get me, come get me."'

It was unclear whether the call was made from the cockpit or before the plane took off.

Foul odor leads San Antonio police to bodies of 2 infants

SAN ANTONIO — The bodies of two young children, no older than toddlers, were found wrapped in plastic bags under a house on the city's southwest side, police said today.

Residents of a triplex were searching under the house late Tuesday after smelling a foul odor for as long as two weeks. They found two black plastic bags containing the decomposing bodies of small children, said police Sgt. Gabe Trevino.

The officers who arrived on the scene reported that one of the bag's contained an infant wrapped in a blanket, according to the police report.

The medical examiner will determine the children's ages, gender and cause of death, but Trevino said police believe the children were between the ages of 6 months and 2 years old.

Two children about that age lived in the complex, but the adult tenants who lived there moved out about a week ago, neighbors told police.

Trevino declined to release details on the adults, but he said police knew who they were and were looking to speak to them.

They've always been crazy. It's just that the level of national attention to these stories has grown with the massive increase of broadcast media and its desire to run the most salacious stories they can find hoping for better ratings.

So, is this guy 'technically' a suicide bomber?

Honestly, I don't have a problem with anyone who feels like he/she just don't want to go on living anymore, they're free to make that choice. My only problem is when they decide to take unwilling participants along for the ride.
