Just released by Pats: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2784304 Updated: March 3, 2007, 9:56 AM ET Pats RB Dillon releasedESPN.com news services Corey Dillon Running Back New England Patriots Profile 2006 SEASON STATISTICS Rush Yds TD Rec Yds TD 199 812 13 15 147 0 Corey Dillon's request to be released by the New England Patriots has been granted, the team said Friday. "On behalf of the New England Patriots organization, we respect and appreciate Corey Dillon's significant contributions to our team," coach Bill Belichick said in a statement issued by the team. "Those contributions extend beyond his individual on-field achievements and his integral role in a championship season. They also include three years of veteran leadership and positive relationships throughout the team." Dillon, the club record-holder for rushing yards in a season, is now free to negotiate with any team. The Patriots will save more than $2 million by releasing him now. Dillon would have counted $4.4 million against the salary cap had the Patriots retained him. Dillon, 32, rushed for 812 yards and a career-high 13 touchdowns in 2006. Though he has hinted at retirement, Dillon said he would consider playing elsewhere as the featured back -- a role he lost in New England after the emergence of Laurence Maroney. If he still has legs, Dillon could be a nice fit to our team.
I'd rather Ahman Green, who apparently is coming to visit soon. Green is younger, has better breakaway speed and is much better as a receiver. But Dillon wouldn't be a bad fallback plan if we lose out on Green.
I still vividly remember Dillon setting the single game rushing record for a rookie against the Oilers. Then my first year playing fantasy football he set the all time single game rushing record agains the browns I believe.
Ron Dayne, Wali Lundy, Chris Taylor, Samkon Gado, AND Ahman Green... and you want another running back? Nope.
Come'on S-D, look at the time of my post 03-03-2007, 11:34 AM Clearly before the Texans signed A.G. get with it!
