What hot spots in japan do i need to visit? Any suggestions. So far, I'm going to stop in shibuya, and harajuku. Anywhere else that i need to visit?
How much time do you have? If you are in Japan for a while, I would definitely make a trip to Kyoto, the cultural capital of Japan, where are the old temples are. Absolutely beautiful. It is about 3 hours away by bullet-train from Tokyo, and you can spend a night at a ryokan (Japanese traditional inn). Get the JR pass while you are in the states if you are planning any such trip. It is not cheap, but it gives you unlimited access to the JR line (non-subway) and will pay for itself if you do a roundtrip from Kyoto to Tokyo plus you can use it to get around most of Tokyo. For Tokyo, I would go to Akihabara (electronic district, also where all the otakus; anime fanboys etc are), Shinjuku (big fun night district and lots of shops), Ginza (kinda like Madison or Fifth Avenue in NYC), Tsukiji (the fish market, quite crazy, go there really early in the morning to see it in action and stop by for a crazy good sushi brunch), Odaiba (a little toursity area if you have the time), Asakusa (a popular temple read tourist is there), Imperial garden, Tokyo Tower (get a good glimpse of Tokyo). Some random things you might enjoy. There is a parasite museum that is a bit hard to get to in Meguro area. It is supposed to be pretty cool. There is an old Edo style amusement style bath house in Odaiba. Let's you see the old Japan while trying out hot baths. Obviously there are lots more to do depending on your time, budget and interest. Hope you have a fun time.
i've been to japan twice. mishii is def. the expert but heres my take: -shinjuku for sure.. its the entertainment/redlight(?) district -ginza is like rodeo drive. rich high class shops. the scene is cool. -everyone always wants to check out the imperial garden but it aint that great. -definitely goto some parks/gardens and some temples.. theyre gorgeous -you might wanna visit a japanese castle. the ones that are preserved are made museums to show what the castle was used for and the samurais that lived there. its pretty interesting stuff. -i stayed at a ryokan for a few days. those are hotels that have public baths which are popular in japan. once you get used to it its relllaaaaaxing overall i loved japan and their cuilture. i think they are really weird (mainly cuz i think anime is r****ded). anime is big over there so get used to that. you definitely have to bring the cash flow cuz its expensive. the people are REAAALLY polite and courteous. be prepared to eat alot of raw/uncooked food. umm.. they drive on the opposite side of the road. also, divide their price by 100 to get the cost in dollars. enjoy your trip - japan is a sweet country. btw i hope youre going with a friend who knows japanese cuz itll be hard to navigate around.
I took a one day tour there once. It was good, visited a lot of nice and cool looking places. Only bad thing was at the end of the tour, we we're dropped off way across town and couldn't take a taxi back it was so far, so had to use the monorail.. and didn't know how to read Japanese.. so getting tickets for that was hard and figuring out what stop to get off was hard too, thought i'd be lost for life. And if you decide to take a tour, look for one that will take you out on the bay(think that's what they called it). It was nice.
The number one thing you got to do when you're in Japan is: Japanese School Girls... If you don't know how, they have plenty of videos online teaching you what to do and how to do.
