I need to tap into the near infinite knowledge of Clutchfans. I took my car to a car wash today and after I got home I noticed some scratches on the bumper that I'm 99% sure weren't there before. 1. Are scratches from car washes that common, I've taken my car to them before and never had a problem. 2. Is it worth my time to try and get them to pay for the damage? I'd probably have to file a lawsuit and it would come down to his word against mine. The thing that pisses me off the most about it is that when I went back up there to talk to him as soon as he saw it he starts yelling that they were there before. He claimed he was outside when I brought it in and saw the scratches which I know isn't true, the scratches may have been there (I'm pretty sure they weren't though) but he was never outside when I brought it in. I expected him to deny it, but having somebody straight up lie to my face like that bothers me.
You can probably polish them off, there are a lot of good products that will help do that. But chances are they scratched the clearcoat for good
thats why if u washed it by the machine u should never do that, its a machine, 99% of the time its going to leave dirt somewhere, rather wash it myself or take it to a hand car wash
Never use those drive through car washes....you're only asking for trouble. Either do it yourself in a car port / home, or get it washed by hand.
my cousin had her back windshield completely shattered by one of those things....they can't do anything about it b/c you're using it "at your own risk" (which is pretty stupid IMO) avoid gas station car washes, unless its touch free i think you're lucky just to come out of it with scratches. if you have rims, avoid the ones where you put your car in neutral and it moves you automatcially (i dont know what it's called)
You know...I was on that boat until I realized one thing..."touch free" means your car comes out dirty. Those things suck. Unless I want to wash my own car (which I really don't), then "touch free" washes means you have to have a trivial amount of dirt on your car for it to work. Otherwise, your car needs to be "touched".
My dad ran a body shop for years.....and I know from experience, that if the scratch isn't too deep, you can buff it out. Take it to a local body shop and get them to buff it out. It is $5 worth of labor and they'll charge you $60 or whatever their $/hour rate is....
