So you are saying that a better coach, like maybe Phil Jackson (who is a better coach), would do better with the talent that he has? Then why is Smush Parker still garbage?
Have you watched Rafer run a fast break?????? A good uptempo PG? He can't finish anywhere within 5 feet of the basket
I don't understand why people still support Rafer...I know he is on our team and we root for him to succeed and all, but isn't it obvious that he just isn't cutting it
Would you like me to define it, troll? Yeah, I have no idea. I only played the position through high school and college but I'm sure you know more about it than I do, seeing as you watch hoops on tv thanks for playing
Then how would you say he isn't an uptemto PG because he cannot finish a layup? If you want to argue a point at least have one that is valid. I have no problem at all with benching Rafer's sorry butt forever. But I am just amazed that hardly a fan anywhere is even recognizing that the coaching staff has really got a mess going here. It is just r****ded that Luther Head plays the PG spot, I can't see any other coach being that stupid, maybe maybe Doc Rivers would do something that dumb.
I agree about Doc Of course we have a mess here. We have a terrible backcourt. But when you don't have the players, you go with what you have. Rafer/Luther/Vspan/Lucas are all bad to mediocre, but that's all we have. Not the coach's fault
An uptempo PG has to be a good decision maker, a good passer and someone who is smart with the basketball. Rafer is none of these at this point. He makes bad decisions (not NEARLY as bad as Luther) and cannot finish when he pushes the ball...which is crucial in an uptempo offense. EDIT: I'm drunk (hence all the spelling errors) and going to pass out now, so I won't be replying to your nonsense anymore. GO Rox
Did I say he was a starting calibre? No. But he is better suited to get the team up the court quicker and into shots and sets quicker. Granted that also means jacking up ill-advised 3's. BUT the point is, naturally when you take this type of PG and FORCE him to play with Deke, Yao, Mutombo, etc he will be LESS effective. Hell look at Francis. Now of course because we have Yao you have to slow it down, BUT no other supposedly "great" coach would take it to the level that their PG would become totally ineffective. Pat Riley would play Rafer at PG with Shaq and it would not be anywhere near that rigid and one-dimensional. I think a lot of Gundy's shortcomings were saved by the old rules and Bobby Sura and Jon Barry's attitude of we don't care, we are going to play OUR WAY. And I know everyone toots Jeff's horn on Yao's play, but remember Ewing is remembered first and foremost for being the only one of Hakeem, Robinson, Shaq, Ewing that did NOT get a ring.
Phil Jackson-Smush Parker (about the same talent level as Rafer) So are you saying we should change the offensive scheme to accomodate a second tier PG? going to bed now
That's total BS. I see NBA fans everywhere especially Lakers fans talking about this. Phil Jackson teams run the triangle offense. Their is no such thing as a point guard in this offense. Lakers fans are generally speaking the biggest Homers out there (along with Knicks, Suns, Packers, Cubs) Basically they are a bunch of stupid fan boys and fan girls. Phil Jakcson could plug any number of seemingly useless players into the PG spot and lead this Rockets team to a championship rather easily. Every time so many fans bring up this Parker issue they just show they don't understand how the triangle offense works.
how about smush parker and rafer alston both are backup pg's in this league....... why are we talkin about smush parker, if Rafer is as good as the rafer lovers say he is
I agree. I noticed our offense runs very few pick and rolls. we should icorporate this bread and butter play. Even if you run a thousand or a million pick and rolls it is a type of play , when properly executed, even though the opponent knows what you are going to run, they still can't stop it. And it creates a lot of mismatches on the switch. Stockton and malone kept repeating this play and still no one could stop it. Same with other teams, I hope we run more pick and rolls or some variation of it in our offense.
And the pick and roll is where Vspan thrives. though I agree from watching last game, Vspan executes his passes poorly. You can tell from the trajectory of his passes and the manner he executes them he is not a good passer, at least with the long passes.
