Like Hawaii? How's it like/ what did you do? I'd like to know cause I'm going to one in two weeks. Thanks.
I go 1-2x a year...not Hawaii....but I do a lot of carribean islands. Scuba diving and sea kayaking are my biggest daytime activities. Booze cruises rock at sunset.
I've been to Captain Morgan's Retreat on Ambergris Caye in Belize. It's where they filmed the first season of Temptation Island. If you like outdoor water activities they can be great.
I'm basically going with noone my age, so would you guys suggest I go party like no other or be cautious? My dream would be to meet an exotic female during my trip there... And do you guys think 4 days is enough?
I just got back from Playa -- a wonderful getaway just under two hours by plane (obviously) from Houston. Playa is absolutely full of gorgeous Euro, South American, etc women.
That's why I am glad I went the all-inclusive route...I'm gonna make sure I get my money's worth when I go in July.
I went with my wife to Tobacco Caye in Belize. We stayed their for four days and it was pretty good. I loved two different Caye's - Laughing Bird and South Water. I love to just lay in a hammock with a coke and just read and sleep for hours. Go in the water and repeat.
Are you talking about like a Club Med sort of thing? I've been vacationing on several tropical islands but rarely stay at resorts. Most that I've seen there should be a lot of things to do, like water sports, and there are bars. Usually the resorts will put on nightly events, like karaoke or comedy acts, for guests. I don't know about meeting exotic females because most of the locals who are there work there and depending on the resort a lot of the people there are families. As for meeting people I've always found it more fun to stay at a town where there are a lot of backpackers looking for cheaper accommodations than at an exclusive resort.
Wait what does resort mean again? I meant that I'm going to go vacationing on this tropical island, already booked a hotel.
I went to Barbados a few months ago and it was great. But I was there for my honeymoon, so, ummm...we didn't get out of the room a whole lot.
Any suggestions on what to do, what restaurants/bars to hit? I'm going there in April with family for the cricket World Cup. Will be staying at Silver Rock hotel in Bridgetown I think.
"Resort" is a term used loosely with destination spots. I believe it mostly means the property. As in "going on an island getaway to a tropical resort". It can be applied to the whole area at times (a "resort town"). A ski resort is a good example - an area setup for skiing that has all the amenities like lodging, equipment, food, etc. I lived in St. Croix in the Caribbean for a while (yeah Tim Duncan's birthplace). Its regarded as a low end tourist spot because there's flat not enough to do there and NO regular nightlife. At the beginning I did things like go into the hotel "resorts" for the heck of it, go into the rainforest for the cultural learning part, go to the bars and "show the tourist ladies around. They used to have something called "Harbor Night" where the cruise ships would dock and there would be booths and shops and music lined up along the streets for the tourists to check out but of course locals went there, too. I regretfully still should have done a lot more though... What I should have done is go on a quick sea plane trip & spend a weekend in St. Thomas (much better tourist attraction, and its U.S. territory!) And of course snorkel, scuba dive and jet skiing. A friend of mine's gone to Hawaii a couple times and she said it lived up to her expectations and did not disappointment. Just be prepared to spend spend! My male interests of course wanted to know how the females there were . She said they weren't all hula'd out and stuff and there was big time Americanized women but she would rank them high on the list of beauty...so one day I'll go there cuz the island girl fantasy's still intriguing enough lol
The resort we stayed at (Fairmont Royal Pavilion) was just outside of Holetown, so we didn't really spend any time in Bridgetown. We only went through there to and from the airport, and one evening we hit the all-inclusive Bajan Roots & Rhythms show at The Plantation. The food was good and the entertainment was cool, but the service was slow. It was hard for me to get drinks often enough to keep my buzz. We wanted to spend an entire day down there, but on the day we had set aside what become Hurricane Ernesto passed overhead and we were rained out. We hit a few restaurants in the Holetown area, so I can help you some there, if you would like...
