I hate him, but I cant deny him.....he goes off every night. the last bad game (for his standards) was against us a couple weeks ago. He goes a good 12-16 evey freaking night along with 10 boards with 3 to 4 assists.... not to mention he's the best player on the best team he has a great supporting cast, but so does steve nash... So is he the mvp?
Plus he knows how to hit FT's. It's part of the game. If this buy guy can do it, then surely anyone else can too. I vote Nash for the MVP though. Mavs can win a few games without Dirk.
yep. my friend who is a phx fan says dirk is the mvp also, because he can get to the line (whether if its legit or whether he flops to the line. he still gets there and he still makes them)....games are won and lost with freethrows and rebounding. dirk does both tremendously well, but i still want to punch him and cuban in the face
FT's are vital to winning. Look at the Cavs. On TNT tonight they said something like if the Cavs had the same FT% as the Mavs then they would score 4 more points a game which would lead to X amount of additional victories for the Cavs (I didn't catch the number).
yup, maybe cuz they're like 47-5 since starting 0-4 and teh best team in the league. that being said, i still think we can beat them in the playoffs. the mvp is basically between nash and nowitzki as much i'd like Mac to get it
LeBron was great tonight but bricking those 2 FTs and missing 2 wide open 3 pointers at the end sure tarnished his performance. The Cavs just don't have enough around him to do it this year. Donyell Marshall, Damon Jones, David Wesley, Big Z(ero) and Eric Snow need to be shown the door. Gibson, Pavlovic, (maybe) Varajao can be building blocks. They need to blow that team up. On the subject, the Mavs incredible streak since starting 0-4 hands the MVP to Dirk and Coach of the Year to AJ if you take the votes now. Dirk is a great player and with his team doing so well, he can't be denied. If the Mavs slip later on then let's take another look.

The MVP doesn't go to the best player of the year; if it did, it'd be called the Player of the Year award. It goes to the player in the league who is most responsible for his team's success. Dirk plays with an incredibly deep team that, technically, has another All-Star. Dirk is a very talented player, no doubt, but Kobe Bryant has been more instrumental to his team's success. And while you could argue that Kobe deserved it other years, those years he was trying to do it singlehandedly. Now, Kobe is getting his teammates into the game and causing them to play better; Kobe is having the Jordan effect on his Lakers team. He takes chances and has taken a real leadership and mentor role on his team. Plus, remember that there ARE politics behind giving players the MVP, and those will factor. Specifically, politics likely WON'T give the trophy to Nash; too many people would be upset at him winning it again despite putting up his inhuman numbers each night.
dallas is the only team in the league (or one of the few -- I got this information from a mavs fan, so it *might* be inaccurate) who employs a full-time FT coach. Each member of the team works with this guy, so it's no surprise that they're doing so well. Then again, $92,828,927 USUALLY buys you a pretty decent team...
Your friend isn't lying. He's the only free throw coach in the league. His name is Gary Boren, he's an investment banker, and he's 67 years old. I don't know where Cuban finds these guys, but it sure does get the job done.
