There is a player in our roster that doesn't get too much attention but little by little is quietly showing that he deserves it... his name ... Carlos Roger ... Ever since he came to the Rockets he has shown heart , hustle , willingness to do what is asked of him , willing to take a charge , willing to face much bigger and stronger players and take a good smack to the face just to get a foul or fight for that rebound or put back, willing and ABLE to score when his number gets called (like yesturday 19pts ). Carlos was the "surprise" of the Pip trade, he was the one all of us said " who?", he was the one that went to Rudy T. and said .. "give me a fair chance and I'll prove myself" and that he has done. Carlos I think might be making himself one of Rudy's favorite players because of his mentality and his "surprising" skills , he is the one that was the big question mark when the trade first happened mainly because of him not having being used at all in Portland , we knew he had been a former #11 pick in the first round by Seattle than traded to Toronto. and we knew he had played pretty decent back in "94 (I think ?) but somehow got lost in the shuffle and was traded to Portland where he really became lost and forgotten then the "lucky star" struck and here he is a Houston Rocket proving to us all in his own quiet way that he is more than deserving to be called one. Many of you all keep stating how he makes a good back up but not starter material , to those of you that say that , well , let's hope that he proves you all wrong , let's hope that he can show the none believers, wish he has had many through out his career, that he can be a starter and he can do possitive things out on the floor. I totally agree w/some of you in the fact that he is not your typical PF mainly because of his weight but he does have great hight at 6'11 ,and is an athletic individual that can run and keep up w/the likes of Francis. All he really would have to do is hit the weight room and add about 20 more pounds and that can be taken care off. With all the negative things that have been said and will be said about our Rockets we also need to commend those that deserve it and we need to look at the possitives and I think that other than Francis and Kenny(being a nice surprise too) "Los" is one that needs to be included in that group. I hope he remains a rocket for a long time, we need guys like him. [This message has been edited by 3pointer (edited December 29, 1999).]
Carlos Rogers is my kind of player. He never gives up, he hustles. I remember his free throws were horrible but now he is getting it better because he works on it so much. He is a great player. He loves the city of houston so much, a nice guy and recently bought a house in Sugarland.
I hope that buying a house in Sug Land shows that maybe he has been told that he will be here for a wile so might as well settle down.
