I'm looking for classical music with a fast pace or over the top stuff.

Right now, I like 1812, Summer, and ride of the valkeriyes, plus that one by Betthoven called Devil's something.

Do you guys have any other suggestions? And please don't suggest madrigals, those bore me to tears.

    Rachmaninov's 5th piano concerto.

I meant the 3rd, but the 5th is good to. Have not listened to them in a while.

Beethoven's "Devil" Something?? I don't know what that is but you might want to look into the 2nd and 4th movements of his 9th Symphony. The 5th Symphony, 1st Movement, might be the most famous movement in all of symphonies in classical music.

As for fast-paced, also look into any overture by Rossini, especially the William Tell (the Lone Ranger theme) and The Thieving Magpie (used in Kubrick's "A Clockwork Orange").

Minute Waltz by Chopin. It's a short solo piano piece, very fast paced.

Anything by Wagner is pretty over the top in my book.

KUHT Radio in the middle of the day. Always filled with classical shizzle... for rizzle, my nizzle... waltizzles like the blizzle danubizzle. ;)

What about Tchaikovsky's classics on ballet? For example, the Nutcracker Suite is a good one. What about Chopin's Funeral March or The Blue Danube or the Emperor Waltz? I like waltzes. Reminds me of my days as a chamberlán in the Quinceañeras... ahhh... those were the days...

    Try this one:

Push the green button below to play. You might want to jump to around 5:43.

It's Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 by Franz Liszt

'Mars, the Bringer of War' from Holst's 'The Planets'.
The overture from 'Candide' by Leonard Bernstein.
'Rite of Spring' (Stravinsky) has parts that are REALLY high energy, in an anxiety-inducing type of way.
Khachaturian's 'Sabre Dance' - even if it doesn't sound familiar, trust me, you've heard this.
The presto agitato from Beethoven's 'Moonlight Sonata' (Piano Sonata #14).
For pure bombast, you can't really beat the 'Sunrise' (or 'Dawn') opening from Strauss's 'Also Sprach Zarathustra' (it's used as the 2001 theme).

Beethoven's Ode to Joy and Leonore Overture No. 3 are the tops.

And yeah, Rossini's overtures are mostly upbeat.

Profonation from Jeremiah Symphony (Leonard Bernstein)
    Festive Overture (Dmitri Shostakovich)
Prelude, Siciliano, & Rondo (Malcolm Arnold)

This is a little more modern but I recommend "The Chairman Dances" by John Adams or "1000 Airplanes on the Roof" by Philip Glass. Fantastic pieces.

Btw, as a music education major you have no idea how much this excites me. So happy there's a classical music topic on Clutchfans.
