Update: DL: Brian Robison: 27 Bench Press Reps, 10'1" Broad Jump, 6.89 Three-cone, 4.67 Forty (3rd), 40.5 vertical. Gaines Adams: 35" vertical, 9'11" Broad Jump, 4.64 Forty Tank Tyler: 42 Bench Press Reps Amobi Okoye: 4.97 Forty LB: Rufus Alexander: 4.7 Forty Paul Polunzny: 4.68 Forty UT fans knew Robison was going to shine in the combine, hopefully some teams took notice, I think he could be a steal during day 2. I want Okoye but am a little disappointed w/ his 40. Supposedly he has gained something like 20 lbs. since last season for the NFL (not sure if that is a good thing).
Robison may have moved himself into the first day. He still isn't being talked about, but that was a very impressive day. He'll need to do it again at the UT pro day. If he does, he could move way up. Adams apparently made himself look even better than before. The 40 time was great and he apparently did very well in linebacker drills. I'd certainly not be disappointed if he somehow fell to #8.
Why are you disappointed? A 302 lb defensive tackle that runs a sub 5.00 fourty is nothing you need to worry about. And he has put on 15 lbs since the Senior Bowl where he weighed in at 287.
Even more impressive considering his brother was killed that weekend.... http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/6507140
True. Analysts were making him out to be some kind of super athletic DT, but a sub 5.00 Forty isn't bad like you said. Still think he is a legit option at #8, would love to trade down for an extra 3rd or something and pick him up.
Getting some extra picks and nabbing Okoye would be great, but I don't think they will be able to slide too far down without worries that a team like St. Louis will take him at 13. I think right now he is in the 8-20 range.
I saw this coming. I've said all along that Laron Landry is the best playmaker on either side of the ball. He's a once in a decade safety, and the most likely HOF'er in the draft. If you value that position, it's a no brainer.
Also the cover corner from Ark- Chris Houston ran a 4.30 That's burning for a cornerback All I know is our first 3 picks have to come in and start and play well I'm hoping for a starting rb, dt, secondary, and ol in this draft (four starters)
Its testing how fast a player is (obviously). Positions where speed is a necessity (RB, WR, DB)...your 40 time could be the difference between getting burned on a go route or being a shut down DB. Its also an indication of how athletic a lineman can be. Some teams need lineman that are quick on their feet, some need guys that will flat knock you on your feet. Bt overall...its fun to watch.
I played high school football and ran about 4.80 and thought I was fast... watching those 300 lb lineman is plain scary.
I saw a clip of Calvin Johnson running his 40 and that dude is just plain sick. At 6-5, he looked a little uncomfortable in his start stance, but when took off...the speed was ALL there. I was almost speechless to see a guy w/ his size get that kind of acceleration. If you can find the clip...watch it.
Saw it. I think he is the best player in the draft. 240 lbs. 4.3- 40 If that guy has good hands and concentration he is going to be a combo of TO and Moss in their prime without the stupid attitudes. Heard he was a solid citizen.
BTW- Andre Johnson put on a similar performance at his pro day at Miami- He ran a 4.35 weighing in at 230 lbs. and he had a 41" vertical Andre had some questions about his hands and concentration, but everything else was out of sight. Andre Johnson is 6'3"
