I know its too late now, but when he was being shopped, i didn't understand why the rockets didn't go after him. I mean 20-10 for a 24 yr old is pretty good. He can play either 3/4. Considering what atl gave up, we could have packaged cato and thomas plus our 1 of our picks to get him. cat, steve, and shareef, now that would have been the bomb. Speaking of shareef, he avg 18pts 6 reb as a rookie in the west on a sorry team. Why do i bring this up, he played 1 yr of college, all american, and put up tose numbers. Why can't we beleive eddie cant put up 13-14pts, 6-8reb and a couple of blocks? Why is everyone so scared to put him in the fire, he won't break. Plus shareef didn't have the players eddie has.
They didn't go after him because they didn't want to have possibly four young superstars on their team at the same time. Francis. Mobley, SAR, and MO/Webber were going to be too much "greatness" on the same court at the same time. Look at Portland.. I say Webber because the Rockets had a chance to trade for SAR while signing him as a free agent. Taylor wouldn't of been back on the team if that happened though so the Rockets didn't launch a full out attack toward Webber in fear of losing him and then lose out on Webber.
The Memphis offer was like 4 or 5 months later so it had no effect on the Rockets deal. The Rockets apparently turned down the deal for Rahim.
I have said and wondered all along what the deal was with SAR.. I think he is the perfect fit for The Rockets and Rudy T.. He can play 3 or 4 ..we could have involved Shandon in the deal.. it could have happened.. he's young.. I wish this had happened.. now we have Glen Rice.. I keep forgetting he is even on the roster.. SAR..could been!!
Hey, the deal for Rahim probably would've have included at least one of the picks we used to get Griffin with. Cheer up. And Rahim wouldn't have been worth sucking up Big Country's contract.
I don't think Rahim is as good as he is said to be, after all, if he was - Vancouver would not have sucked so bad.
so what taylor would have left. for shareef that would have been an upgrade. vancuver was sorry because of coaching. if vancuver would have had lenny wilkens, they would have won more games than the rockets last year. i'm not saying that a coach is worth that many victories, but think about their line up, and man for man they had a better starting 5.they were stupid enough to draft stromile swift when they had harrungton playing the 4 already. what kind of sense does that make.
That Grizzlies team wouldn't have won more games then the Rockets because they were to slow, weren't versatile, nor quick enough to play any kind of defense. They also didn't have a bench, or a proven full-time go-to guy. I would have loved to have gotten Rahim at the time, but in hindsight that probably would have cost us Griffin, Rice, Mo, capspace, and a weakened bench, so I'm happy with what we've got. And if the Rockets sign Marc Jackson we're a playoff team I believe.
RM, you mean Shareef, Cat, Francis, Morris,Jefferson, or Langhi, and Cato wouldn't have been a legit squad. You probably could have Randolph and Morris and played shareef at the 3. That team would have been more legit than this on. Plus they wouldn't have had a guy in the twilight (rice) of his career. Shareef is only 24 and he's signed for another 3 yrs. Any way it goes I'm still going to be a Rockets fan. I just think that if they really wanted to get into the playoffs without waiting on a player to develop, shareef would have been great. All atl gave up was Brevin Knight, Lorenzen Wright, and the #6 pick. Thats robbery
memphis' pick was #3, the rockets picks were all after #13. cato is a negative, the most untradable player in the whole league. brevin knight is servicable. and lorenzen wright definately had value, hes young, big, athletic and can score. the rockets offer of cato and pick #13 couldnt get a second round pick back in return
whats the difference between cato and wright? i think both has similar contracts and are under acheivers. Atl is going to be tough. I still don't know why they drafted terry. Would anyone besides me take Mookie Blaylock as a back up?
first: watch them play second: look the box-scores third: think i would take wright over cato any time.
want info on the might-have-been Shareef trade? from the man himself: http://bbs.clutchcity.net/php3/showthread.php?s=&threadid=9528&highlight=Shareef
