I'm thinking of buying this westinghouse LCD tv. I'm in the market for a new tv, and want to go LCD. Isn't 1080p the thing everyone is talking about for tvs?
    Westinghouse Silver/Black 37" 8ms 1080p HD-Ready LCD TV Model LVM-37W3

    Newegg $979

    BestBuy $1499

westinghouse lcds are great. newegg is awesome too.

37in is too small for 1080p, you wont notice a difference until you get 55+ in
    but for $979, that's a good deal.
westinghouse is good for video games.

Might as well get a 37" Syntax Olevia. They fall down to 600-750 for the 3 series or the 4 series.

Just as good in terms of quality as Westinghouse I think.. you won't get 1080p, but like tinman said, it doesn't matter at that size. So you'd be overspending imo..

I just got an HP 42" Plasma ......I'm VERY VERY happy

It got very good reviews on Consumer Reports, especially the standard def picture. I also compared it to several other Samsungs and LGs @ Circuit City and 3 other unbiased people, along with myself, felt it was the best picture in the store

anyway, Circuit City has it for $1199 right now, which is a steal

    question before tomorrow...

people keep saying that 1080p is a must for gamers, but now you say that it's not noticeable until 55"+. so, is it not necessary to get 1080p at 42" even if i am playing games on it?

I agree. 1080p is the most overrated thing in electronics. Its like the difference between a coke with 3 ice cubes and a coke with 2.7 ice cubes...

I think my dad bought this TV a few weeks ago. He asked me if Westinghouse TVs were any good, and if ~$1000 for a 37" 1080p LCD TV was a good deal. When I responded favorably to both, I guess that was enough for him to order it from Newegg the very next day, even though I sort of told him to wait and check out some other things for a variety of reasons (see if 1080p is worth it, see in-person how this TV stacks up to others, get some feedback from professionals, plan on getting some HD material to watch on the TV, etc.).

He seems to love it, but then again, he isn't even really watching stuff in HD. The visual improvements offered by 480p movies are enough to make him happy. Seems like such a waste, but whatever. Next time I go home, I think I'll try to play some 720p/1080i/1080p videos on it that I downloaded in the last few years.

I bought the 37" from Conns last year. Great TV and has a better picture than my big screen Sony.

I know I've read this before but can someone refresh my memory as to what the difference between 1080i and 1080p is? In terms of visual clarity

Not too danged much. I think it breaks down like I outlined below, if I am wrong someone correct me.

The 1081i shows 50% of the current frame and 50% of the next frame where the 1080p shows 100% of each frame.

720p is actually greater than HDTV these days...so unless you are gonig to be hooking up a computer to the TV no need for 1080p....

That being said, I have three HDTVs in my house....a 32", a 37" and a 42" and they are all 1080p.....

I am a sucker for technology.

my grandmother got the a LCD TV from walmart for about 700-800 or so and i think the picture is pretty mediocre.

that sounds like a good deal for the westinghouse. in a few years when i get a tv 1500 or should get you a really good one by then hopefully.

obviously tvs keep getting better for the money, but it seems to me that that has kind of slowed down some.

    **************************************************

does anyone know if i did go ahead and get one of those tvs if i could somehow send a wireless signal from my laptop to the tv so i could use it as a moniter.

i have heard you may be able to use a slingbox for that, is that the best and only option???

I'm casually shopping for a LCD TV and I notice LCD are advertised as

LCD rear projection and just LCD. What is the difference if any?

My parents bought an LCD rear projection a few months ago, and I think the only difference is whether you want it to be slim or not. A lot of people buy LCD's because they are so thin, but if you don't care about that rear projection should be just as good.

There's was a 50" Sony 1080p ... amazing picture. In the store, you could see the difference between it and the Samsung 1080i LCD sitting next to it.

Awesome, I'm going to get this tv tomorow from Bestbuy for $860. That, or get it for $999. They have a returned item for the $860, i'll take a look at it and see if it comes with a remote etc.

Do you think it'd be cheaper to get it from Newegg (no taxes...put $$59.99 shipping) or from Bestbuy with taxes?

Also, has anyone else tried the Pay later (no interest for 6months) from walmart or Bestbuy? (via their "credit" cards)? Is it worth it? (no fees on the cards? )
