Just wondering how this is viewed amongst other alpha-males like myself. Girlfriend was kidding me because I'm kind of pale and telling me I need to get a tan. I told her most guys don't concern themselves with being tan and surely don't go out of their way to "lay out" and tan. Now wondering if I was right or not. If I'm working outside, I MAY take my shirt off so as not to get a "farmboy tan", but personally, I would rather gauge my own eyes out with a wooden spoon than lay in the hot sun all day and "tan".
I get tan, but not because I lay out or try to get tan. I just hike, play tennis, surf, and go to the beach fairly often. The tan ends up being a by-product.
I'm pasty white and have to do it a couple of times to get a good color...Hell, yesterday, I just went to the park with kids and now I look like a lobster...Face, arms and legs red, red, red...
No. But If I do get a sunburn, it's a brown tan by evening. I've had maybe 3 really bad sunburns in my life. In other words, if I'm outside that long... it was really a long time. I brown easily. My wife on the other hand burns very quickly so she says it's "not fair." (no pun intended) But I love her fair complexion and wouldn't change it.
I'm a ginger - can't tan. However, I used to know this guy that worked w/ my roommate at The Cheesecake Factory in the late 90's who was the closest thing to a professional tanner. He actually went by the name "Tan Todd". Tan Todd had a written tanning schedule and would give you detailed reccomendations for your own pigment enhancement. He was like a personal pigment consultant that worked pro bono. The last I saw of Tan Todd, he was chased out of MMP for drinking a fan's beer that was being passed down the row. Tan Todd also went by Tanked Todd.
