Why would we want mike james when he has proven in minnesota that his big season in toronto was an exception.

Because Rafer's big game last night is also an exception.

BTW, I don't buy the "contract year" bullsh-t that people like to put out. I understand if somebody comes in out of shape after signing a big contract (see Boris Diaw), but there's no magic "contract year" switch that you can turn on to make your 3 point percentage increase.

If James were TO'ing a lot or shooting FT's especially lousy, I might buy the post- contract year theory because those things require concentraton. But his TO's are low and his FT % is still high so I don't buy it.

Mike James for a 1st rounder? Is it worth it?

if we can land james without touching any rotation player, htat would be a good deal.

we traded a lotto pick for shane. i think trading our first rounder (mid 20's) for james is along the same line of thinking.

sura, lucas, first round pick for james = good deal.

when yao gest back we will have a very good bench if this deal gets done:

    yao-deke-jake
    hayes-howard-novak
    shane-bonzi
    tmac-head-snyder
    rafer-james-billy

The 1st rounder would be the 26th/27th/28th pick in the 1st round. It's not like we are talking about the 10th pick or something.

remember we are in "WIN NOW" mode
We traded a lottery rookie, what makes u think we will use a low first rounder?

Yeah but the Rockets recently turned a pick in that range into Luther Head.

James has put up 17 and 20 pts off the bench hte last two nights so it's probably driving his stock up a bit.

Pass deadline...just pass and ignore the rockets. seriously tho, what about bonzi and sura for james. i dont like james but bonzi is not fitting in at all. then again i wouldnt do it for the fact that james has 3 years left on his contract

It is not bad trade. It is OK, maybe a good one.

It was the 23rd pick I think. And yes they did. But more often than not those picks don't always pan out. They are gambles.

Gambling with James now is gambling for a chance at a championship THIS season.

    This is from cnnsi.com

James has been unhappy in Minnesota since bolting Toronto last summer to sign a four-year, $24 million contract. The veteran guard recently lost his starting job to rookie Randy Foye, and it was no secret that the T'wolves were shopping him around the league. Minnesota reportedly was asking teams to take Eddie Griffin in any deal for James, but has apparently backed off in recent days.

The T'wolves, however, were much more adamant about receiving a first-round pick in any deal for James, according to another league source with knowledge of Minnesota's dealings. If the T'wolves continue to insist on Griffin going out -- as well as a first-round pick -- this deal to the Rockets could be scuttled. But for now it appears likely that James will get his wish to be a key contributor on a winning team, and back in the Houston area where he and his wife were building a new home.

no way we trade a 1st rounder and rookie Novak who in a couple years could be something special for Mike James who we will spend the next 3 years trying to trade.

David Lee was the 30th pick in the draft 2 years ago...

according to NBAdraft.net our current draft spot would yeild a player like Tyler Hansbrough, Nick Fazekas, Morris Almond or Rudy Fernandez.

I'm no trading one of those guys and Sura's contract and Nocak for Mike (ive alreqady had issues in houston) James, his 31 year old legs and 3 years 21 million left on his deal after the kicker applies. Sorry Pass. i dont want to be paying Mike James 7.4 million when he is 34 years old.

Who is going to lose minutes to Mike James because he's not a ball handler.

I wasn't sure about the 1st rounder but if the Rockets are willing to give up a first rounder for James, that says to me:

    1. They really believe in James and what he can bring to the team. He's more of a reliable scorer off the bench than Head is (as much as I hate admitting that).

    2. They really believe that we have what it takes to win it all. You don't trade away 1st rounders unless you are sure you have a contending team. If this trade does happen, you add James and Yao (when he gets back) into the lineup, we are the deepest we've been IN A LONG TIME. We'd probably be the deepest team behind Phoenix and Dallas. Come playoff time, the rotation is going to shrink but our talent level won't decrease. Yao/Howard/Battier/McGrady/Alston/Wells/James/Head...that's a bonafide 8 man rotation right there. Then add on Hayes and Mutombo for relief, this team should be better than the 2004-2005 playoff team.

i really want mike james here. he's a fearless player who can attack and create his own shot. he's not perfect but he's without question an asset. i'd give up the first rounder and sura/jl3 if that'll get it done. i don't like the idea of giving up novak + first rounder but i'd probably do that as well.

Novak, Sura's cap space, and a first round pick for James? Seems a bit steep. I'd much rather give them JL3 or VSpan.
